About The Position

The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a part-time Security Screener to help provide guests with a safe and positive experience. The role operates and inspects security screening equipment, including walk-through metal detectors and handheld wands, and conducts guest screening and bag checks. The screener identifies potential threats, assists ground patrol, and works with security personnel and law enforcement to maintain a safe environment. The position also prepares reports, monitors for criminal activity, provides professional assistance to guests, and ensures compliance with security procedures.

This is a non-exempt part-time position under the Fair Labor Standards Act. It reports to the Director of Security, with general oversight from the Security Supervisor. Scheduling flexibility is required for evening, weekend, and holiday work. The Toledo Zoo is a drug-free workplace, including marijuana.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Flexibility in work scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Prior security-related experience, law enforcement experience, or a military background.
