About The Position

Convergint is seeking a full-time, enthusiastic, results-driven, and forward-thinking Security Technician to join their team. This role involves installing, programming, system start-up/check-out, certification, and customer training for Fire, Security, and/or Building Automation projects of varying complexity. The position is responsible for delivering projects within budget and on schedule, acting as a key interface for technical support, and ensuring customer satisfaction. There is potential to mentor less-experienced staff. This is a dynamic role within a growing company.

Requirements

  • Exceptional customer focus and ability to regularly work under pressure; consistent ability to maintain awareness of, and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted.
  • Minimum experience: 7+ years of progressive experience in commercial, industrial, enterprise, or mission critical security systems programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, installation support, or service.
  • Programming and commissioning experience: 5+ years configuring, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning access control and/or VMS platforms, including users, permissions, schedules, alarms, door behavior, camera configuration, events, reports, and system health monitoring.
  • Access control hardware experience: Strong working knowledge of Mercury-based platforms and common field devices.
  • Networked systems experience: Demonstrated experience in IP-based security environments, including IP addressing, VLAN coordination, switch connectivity, PoE budgeting, server/workstation coordination, firewall coordination, certificates, basic cybersecurity practices, and customer change-control procedures.
  • Integration experience: Experience supporting integrations with elevators, intercoms, intrusion, fire alarm interfaces, visitor management, badging, HR databases, Active Directory/LDAP, building automation systems, and third-party security ecosystem components.
  • Project execution experience: Experience supporting project schedules, phased turnover, QA/QC documentation, acceptance testing, punch lists, customer training, closeout documentation, and issue resolution on active construction or retrofit projects.
  • Leadership experience: Ability to guide technicians, subcontractors, and task-level teams during checkout and commissioning. Formal people management is preferred but not required if the candidate can lead technical execution in the field.
  • Certifications in current versions of Lenel OnGuard.
  • Certifications in current versions of Milestone XProtect.
  • The applicant must have at least five (5) years of experience programming, configuring, integrating, testing, and commissioning enterprise electronic security systems of similar scope, complexity, and criticality.
  • Recent experience serving as the primary programmer on large-scale, enterprise, or mission-critical deployments is required.
  • The applicant must demonstrate competency in access control programming, video management system configuration, third-party system integration, cybersecurity and system hardening, system commissioning, troubleshooting, and the preparation of as-built programming documentation, testing reports, and turnover packages.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills are required to work effectively with internal teams, customers, IT personnel, consultants, and trade partners throughout the life of the project.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred experience: 10+ years supporting complex access control and video management environments, especially data center, healthcare, higher education, government, multi-site, or enterprise deployments.
  • Experience supporting data centers or similar critical infrastructure environments is strongly preferred.
  • Formal people management is preferred but not required if the candidate can lead technical execution in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, programs, tests, repairs, and services a variety of systems and equipment including security, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation.
  • Serves as the key interface for technical support and customer training, accountable for maximizing customer satisfaction.
  • Reads complex blueprints, schematics, manuals, and specifications to determine installation requirements.
  • Interprets manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and repairs equipment using advanced test instruments and hand tools.
  • Operates systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance, and identify malfunctions.
  • Writes non-routine programs of substantial variety and complexity for systems.
  • Acts as "our customer’s best service provider" at all times, ensuring Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service.
  • Takes ownership of onsite projects, including safety, quality, and performance.
  • May provide custom systems integrations, detailed systems upgrade planning and execution, systems audits and consultation, and/or database management and manipulation.
  • May install, configure, and support a variety of network systems and equipment for assigned projects.
  • Consults with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
  • Performs all work in accordance with Federal, State and local regulations as well as company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Uses solid troubleshooting skills to isolate and fix problems in malfunctioning equipment or software.
  • May advise management regarding customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques and standards, and suggestions for product improvements.
  • Participates or assists with developing customer presentations or similar new business development activities.
  • Executes all technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets, including preparation of project deliverables such as submittals/shop drawings/training documentation, programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and on-going technical support.
  • Identifies potential project risks, communicates them to appropriate parties, and assists in developing and implementing strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and project deadlines.
  • Works closely with the Project Manager and/or Operations Manager and assists in the overall coordination of specific projects, including supervision and oversight of subcontractors and installation work.
  • Makes recommendations regarding quality of work and potential changes in scope, and identifies ways to continuously improve customer satisfaction.
  • Mentors and trains less experienced staff using technical knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • May supervise workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance.
  • Provides performance feedback to management regarding Project Specialist I and II.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.
