About The Position

The Security Officer position is responsible for protecting Georgia Power employees, contractors, visitors and property. Enforce and administer established rules, procedures, and appropriate laws. Respond to alarms and security requests for security services. Process personnel for access authorization to Plant Wansley in accordance with established procedures. Interpret procedures and regulations and be able to make decisions regarding plant access control.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Must possess and/or obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license
  • Computer experience – ability to proficiently use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn and enforce plant security policies and procedures as required
  • Ability to learn and/or have knowledge of company policies, procedures, Local, State and Federal criminal laws and their application to private security
  • Ability to learn and/or have knowledge of power plant operations
  • Ability to administer basic first aid/CPR
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills, problem solving skills, decision making skills, and negotiating skills
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service
  • Ability to work well with others in a team environment
  • Ability to persuade, motivate and influence others
  • Ability to prioritize and perform work in absence of direct supervision
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must meet all local, State and Federal requirements pertaining to the issuance of a firearm and there application to private security
  • Must be able to obtain an Armed Security Officer License issued by the State Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies
  • Must be able to pass a background check for the Georgia Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies
  • Must be able to pass a State mandated private security officer training
  • Must pass the following job prerequisites: company psychological test, physical, background investigation, and drug test
  • Must successfully complete the required tests associated with this position
  • Must qualify for firearm use and re-qualify with semiautomatic pistol and pump action shotgun at least twice annually (day and night firing qualifications) with a minimum passing score of 80% or better
  • Individual will be required to be sprayed with O.C. Pepper Spray during training
  • Routine Required Physical Demands: Lift and carry 40 pounds, 50 feet: 3-4 hours per 8 or 12 hours shift; Stand: up to 5.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Sit: up to 5.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Walk: up to 2.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Drive: up to 5.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Climb: up to 2.0 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift (will be required to climb 125 stairs at one time on a regular basis); Balance: up to 2.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Bend/Stoop: up to 2.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Kneel: up to 2.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Crouch: up to 2.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Push/Pull: up to 2.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Squat: up to 2.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Reach above shoulder level: up to 2.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Work alone: up to 8.0 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Grasp with both hands: up to 5.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Fine manipulation with both hands: up to 2.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Keyboarding: up to 2.5 hours per 8 or 12 hour shift; Work at heights; See at near and far distances at least 20/40 acuity in each eye, with or without correction; Recognize and distinguish among control devices showing red, green, and amber colors; Binocular vision; At least 70º peripheral vision in horizontal meridian in each eye; Hear a forced whisper at 5 feet; Tolerate exposure to non-lethal substances (i.e. OC spray, tear gas); Tolerate exposure to marked changes in temperature, and humidity or extremes; Tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, gases, chemicals; Ability to obtain a valid Georgia Driver’s license; Ability to qualify with firearms; Ability to obtain armed security officer license issued by State Board of Private Detectives.
  • Emergency Required Physical Demands: Run 100 yards with standard issue gear within 90 seconds; Climb 35 feet of stairs with standard issue gear within 60 seconds; Lift 35 pounds and carry 50 yards with standard issue gear within 90 seconds; Easily maneuver through 24 inch opening/passage with standard issue gear.
  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (Must hold a valid driver’s license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver’s license).
  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
  • Must consent to a continuous monitoring of your Motor Vehicle Record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the military, law enforcement, corrections, or armed security with a strong background in customer service and external relations preferred
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system is desired
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus
