About The Position

Barbier Security Group is hiring a full-time Security Officer for a recycling and waste management facility in San Rafael. The officer will maintain a proactive security presence and provide customer service while helping ensure a safe, welcoming, and professional environment for employees and authorized visitors. Duties include foot and vehicle patrols, CCTV monitoring, emergency response, conflict de-escalation, and accurate activity and incident documentation. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with 10-hour morning shifts. The hourly rate is $28. The posting states that two hours of overtime are guaranteed per day.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be eligible to work in the United States.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Current California Guard Card License required.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record required for applicable sites.
Reliable transportation required.
Proficiency in basic computer and smartphone use.
Ability to speak, read, and write English to prepare accurate reports.
Strong listening skills, patience, and compassion, especially when interacting with community members experiencing emotional or psychological challenges.
Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, think critically, de-escalate conflicts, and communicate effectively.
Maintain a positive, professional demeanor and follow applicable laws, regulations, company policies, confidentiality standards, and client procedures.
Clear understanding of emergency response procedures and protocols.
At least one year of experience in security, mobile patrol, or event staff roles.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must pass a background check and drug screening.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including outdoors over uneven surfaces.
Ability to climb stairs regularly and navigate multi-level buildings.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, rainy, or windy weather.
Manual dexterity to operate security equipment.
Ability to run or move quickly over short distances when needed.
Physical stamina to work long hours while remaining alert and focused.
Ability to kneel, crouch, and bend as needed.
Strong vision and hearing to observe surroundings, monitor security systems, and detect alarms or sounds of distress.

Responsibilities

Conduct regular patrols of assigned indoor and outdoor areas, including multi-level buildings.
Conduct foot and vehicle patrols and monitor CCTV systems.
Respond promptly to emergencies and incidents, and assist with evacuations and other emergency responses.
Operate security equipment, including radios, keys, and locks.
Lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds and assist with securing heavy items or moving supplies.
Monitor surroundings for potential security threats, alarms, or sounds of distress.
De-escalate stressful or potentially volatile situations professionally and communicate effectively.
Remain alert and focused throughout long shifts.
Maintain accurate activity logs covering patrols, incidents, and observations, and prepare clear incident reports.
Represent the company and clients professionally, follow legal standards and company and client policies, maintain grooming and uniform standards, and communicate respectfully with the public, clients, and team members.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
