About The Position

Provides maximum protection for the safety and security of university and hospital personnel, patients, students, visitors, and Jefferson assets. Performs security duties at fixed posts or through patrols and rounds of buildings and grounds. Responds to service calls, checks for unauthorized persons and security violations, and identifies fire or safety hazards. Officers may be assigned to any fixed post or patrol duty, in any environment and on any shift. They also provide directions and information to patients, visitors, and students when requested. The role includes responding to emergencies, documenting incidents, supporting safety teams, assisting with campus parking issues, enforcing no-smoking rules, and carrying out other security and loss-prevention duties as assigned. This is a highly visible uniform position requiring officers to maintain an excellent appearance and carry required security instruments.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to work all shifts and rotate between shifts as needed.
Ability to understand the responsibilities and technology associated with the 24-hour Security Response Center (SRC).
Ability to use Microsoft desktop applications, including Word and email.
Must maintain an excellent appearance in a highly visible uniform role and be equipped with required security instruments.
Valid driver’s license required to work at certain Jefferson locations.
In Pennsylvania, valid ACT 235 Certification is required within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

Prior security, police, or military experience is preferred.
Experience in campus or hospital security, law enforcement, or another related Criminal Justice agency is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform security patrols at fixed posts or while patrolling, checking for security violations and fire or safety hazards.
Verify that people on the property are authorized by checking identification badges and escort unauthorized persons from campus as necessary.
Respond promptly to calls for service, including priority or serious incidents, problems, and emergencies; notify a Sergeant or Lieutenant of conditions and use conflict-resolution skills when needed.
Investigate and document accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities; maintain a daily patrol log and submit it to the Sergeant or Shift Supervisor at the end of the tour.
Provide follow-up information to a Security Investigator and/or Lieutenant as directed.
Assist employees, students, patients, patients’ families, and visitors during incidents, including providing security escorts upon request.
Assist with campus parking issues and patrol parking lots and parking-lot equipment.
Support safety teams, including assisting the Trauma Team with helicopter landings and responding to fire-related emergencies.
Enforce no-smoking requirements inside and outside on campus.
Perform other assigned security, safety, and protection duties, including loss-prevention support such as inspecting deliveries and packages, and assisting with training new security staff.
Provide directions or information to patients, visitors, and students when requested.
Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson’s values.
