About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is dedicated to transforming the health care experience and providing access to world-class health care in America’s heartland. This position is in a team environment with a weekend shift differential, overtime availability, and the opportunity to work in a healthcare setting performing a wide variety of duties. The hours are 6am to 6:30pm and every other weekend. The Security Officer enforces policies and procedures with all patients/residents, visitors, and staff, patrols and secures facility buildings and grounds, and monitors the conduct of visitors on premises, confronting unauthorized persons for questioning. They report safety, fire hazards, or security violations, and respond to all requests for assistance from employees, patients/residents, and visitors. The role involves assisting with problem-solving to achieve positive outcomes, potentially escorting personnel to and from parking areas, and maintaining records and preparing incident reports. Security officers must be able to work with all age groups and prioritize calls for service based on urgency and safety needs. They are expected to work in highly stressful situations, de-escalating them as soon as possible, and must maintain awareness of local laws affecting conduct on private property. Required skills include effective communication with all customers, the ability to write professional reports, and the physical ability to perform basic security officer functions as trained. This position may involve access to areas where medications are stored.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • College or vocational education is preferred.
  • Prior experience healthcare security, contract security and/or law enforcement is highly preferred.
  • May require a current valid driver's license with Sanford insurability dependent upon region.
  • Basic certification by International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety preferred within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

  • May escort personnel to and from parking areas as requested.
  • Maintains records and prepares incident reports and other documents pertinent to security activities.
  • Ability to work with all age groups.
  • Must be able to prioritize calls for service in order of urgency based on safety needs.
  • De-escalate highly stressful situations as soon as possible.
  • Maintain awareness of local laws which affect the way individuals conduct themselves on private property.
  • Communicate effectively with all customers.
  • Ability to write professional reports.
  • Demonstrate the physical ability to perform basic security officers functions as trained.
  • May have access to areas where medications are stored in order to perform their specific job related functions.
