About The Position

Westtown School seeks an experienced part-time overnight Security Officer to work Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Additional shifts may be available. Security Officers help maintain the safety and security of the school community, campus buildings, and grounds through regular patrols and camera surveillance. Officers are essential school personnel and are expected to be available during inclement weather and other school-closing situations. Westtown School is an independent Quaker pre-K through 12 college preparatory day and boarding school in suburban West Chester, Pennsylvania, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia. Its 600-acre campus features state-of-the-art facilities, and its faculty and staff prepare students to be stewards and leaders of a better world.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
Current CPR/AED certification required.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving history.
Well-organized and able to prioritize work.
Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
Ability to work independently without close supervision.
Calm under pressure and able to respond to a variety of situations.

Required clearances, including PA Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse Certification, and FBI fingerprints.
Able to patrol the property and access all areas quickly; sufficient vision and hearing, with correction if needed, to observe at a distance and perceive normal spoken-word information.
Able to stand and walk for extended periods, conduct rounds and safety inspections, work outdoors in bad weather when required, monitor surveillance equipment while seated for prolonged periods, and ascend and descend stairs.
May need to climb, stand for long periods, walk, push, pull, lift up to 25 pounds, bend, and perform repetitive motions.

Nice To Haves

Some college education.
EMT certification; desired but not required.
Prior security or related experience.

Responsibilities

Provide a safe and secure environment for students, employees, campus residents, and guests.
Maintain the safety and security of campus buildings and grounds through regular rounds on foot or in a motorized vehicle.
Monitor the surveillance camera system.
Investigate and report unsafe conditions and suspicious activity.
Develop and maintain positive, professional relations with students, parents, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Respond promptly to alarms and calls for assistance.
Provide basic first aid and medical attention as appropriate.
Complete a daily activity log and provide pass-on information to relief personnel.
Notify police, the fire department, and appropriate school officials of situations requiring immediate or prompt attention.
Participate in departmental meetings and required training.
Perform other duties as assigned.
