About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Public Safety has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Security Officer-Dispatcher. The Security Officer - Dispatcher provides a safe and secure environment for students, staff, customers, visitors, and persons conducting business in an assigned facility by continually looking for situations that could interrupt the normal business flow and taking immediate steps to eliminate the risk. Additionally, the Security Officer - Dispatcher engages in loss and crime prevention activities to protect University assets.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Controls building access and property removal.
  • Maintains civil law and order and assists in prevention of damage due to fire, theft or negligent acts.
  • Monitors in-coming calls from all campus buildings.
  • Monitors and dispatches officers to different types of calls and emergencies.
  • Monitors security breaches, perimeter breaches, and temperature alarms from all medical campus and satellite buildings.
  • Assists with all emergency calls for assistance and disasters.
  • Observes campus activity to maintain a safe and secure campus environment.
  • Provides verbal intervention techniques and de-escalate situations, if necessary.
  • Assists with emergency calls by notifying Miami Fire Rescue, PD-1 Officer on campus or Miami Police Department.
  • Maintains daily shift logs and good communication with shift supervisor, lead officer and FTO officers.
  • Takes remedial and corrective steps and notifies management of all abnormal conditions.
  • Prepares reports and incident documentation as necessary.
  • Assists staff, students, patients, and visitors by providing directions and other relevant assistance.
  • Monitors unauthorized individuals or calls the police.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
