About The Position

The Security Program Manager role administers and coordinates the organization’s healthcare security, workplace violence prevention, and physical security programs to support a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, staff, providers, contractors, and facilities. This position oversees contracted security services, physical security systems, security-related vendors, and enterprise security initiatives in alignment with regulatory requirements and healthcare industry best practices. Responsibilities include security risk assessments, incident investigations, emergency preparedness support, workplace violence prevention activities, and regulatory compliance coordination. The role collaborates with operational leaders, Human Resources, clinical departments, Emergency Operations, and community response agencies to support life safety, mitigate organizational risk, and maintain continuity of operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, Emergency Management, Occupational Safety, Healthcare Administration, or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in healthcare security, law enforcement, emergency management, public safety, or security program administration.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and coordinating emergency response activities.
  • Experience with physical security systems including access control, surveillance, badge access, or alarm systems.
  • Experience coordinating contracted services, vendor relationships, or enterprise security initiatives.
  • Strong managerial skills including strategic planning, delegation, performance management, problem-solving, maintaining regulatory compliance, and financial management.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to support data-driven decision-making and stewardship of departmental resources.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively to diverse audiences using a variety of mediums.
  • Demonstrated success in leading, motivating and inspiring employees and cross-functional teams to achieve strategic objectives and deliver results.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, patience, and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) certification.
  • Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or related certification.
  • Experience in an acute care or healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and DNV healthcare standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain healthcare security policies, procedures, and program standards across the organization.
  • Coordinate the organization’s Security Management Program in collaboration with operational and clinical leadership.
  • Oversee contracted security services and security-related vendor relationships, including service coordination, issue resolution, and performance monitoring.
  • Manage and standardize the use of physical security systems including badge access, surveillance systems, panic alarms, duress systems, and related security infrastructure.
  • Conduct security risk assessments, vulnerability analyses, and security evaluations across organizational facilities.
  • Investigate security-related incidents including workplace violence events, theft, trespassing, suspicious activity, and patient or visitor disturbances, completing root cause analysis and action plans to mitigate future risk potential.
  • Coordinate workplace violence prevention activities, threat response processes, and post-incident follow-up recommendations.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities including lockdown procedures, evacuation planning, severe weather response, active threat response, and utility disruption planning in partnership with the Emergency Operations Coordinator.
  • Develop and provide education related to workplace violence prevention, situational awareness, personal safety, and emergency response procedures.
  • Maintain security-related documentation including incident reports, investigative records, corrective action recommendations, and regulatory compliance records.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with law enforcement, fire agencies, emergency management agencies, contracted security partners, and community response organizations.
  • Monitor healthcare security trends, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices to support continuous program improvement.
