Homewood Ravensview is a private 75-bed mental health, trauma and addiction facility offering evidence-based, medically-led, inpatient services for first responders, military, veterans, adults, and young adults. Located in North Saanich on 28 acres of forested hillside, Homewood Ravensview offers clients a comfortable and safe environment featuring serene ocean views from spacious rooms, welcoming common areas and a world-class team of physicians, psychiatrists, counsellors and 24-hour nursing professionals. As a Security Guard, you will be an integral part of a collaborative team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers. Whether you aspire to a career in Security, or it’s a stepping stone to Law Enforcement or something else, you'll gain invaluable experience working in mental health. The Security Guard’s role is to help provide a safe and secure environment to support the delivery of excellent patient care. Primary responsibilities include ensuring the security and the safety of staff, patients, physicians and others on the site, while also protecting property and information. Availability for days, afternoons and nights are required.

Requirements

  • Fully licensed Security Guard in the province of BC – to be renewed every three years
  • Relevant 6 month’s experience with security, police, fire or other security service
  • Ability to work various shifts including day, evening and nights
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification; recertification to be completed as required
  • Ability to assess and evaluate situations and implement de-escalation techniques
  • Knowledge and experience in handling aggressive behaviours
  • Ability to handle private information with a high amount of discretion
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports and maintain routine logs
  • Ability to make immediate decisions, while maintaining composure, in emergency response situations with minimal supervision
  • Subject to any accommodation required by applicable human rights legislation, Homewood Ravensview requires that all staff have received all required doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.

  • Experience within a hospital setting is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Patrol interior and exterior of facility to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
  • While on patrol, monitor risks such as unlocked doors, blocked entrances and exits, hazardous material, and additional breaches of security.
  • Respond to varied emergencies such as calls for assistance, fire alarms and incidents of aggression.
  • Report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, emergency situations and contact emergency responders.
  • Respond to all emergencies in person, taking a leadership role under all Emergency Codes.
  • Works to determine the status of any such emergencies and whether or not local emergency services may be required, such as police, fire and ambulance.
  • Monitor situations, cameras, property and events.
  • Utilize two-way radios and computer applications for communicating site activities in a professional manner.
  • Provide up-to-date and accurate verbal and/or written reports on all site activity and incidents that occur.
  • Monitor and screen visitors, preventing unauthorized entry; be confident and composed when resolving disruptions.
  • Enforces Homewood’s smoke-free policy.
  • Ensure the security of the site and the safety of the public, staff and others on site.
