About The Position

Under general supervision, plans, schedules and performs field training of new officers; in absence of the Security Sergeant, may supervise personnel during shifts when assigned; assists other officers in carrying out public safety and security activities, to include protecting the Casino property against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry; performs other security officer work duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possess a valid Guard Card, Exposed Firearms Permit, Baton Permit, and Chemical Agent Permit (Will require proof of application and payment of fees if Guard Card and Exposed Firearms Permit not in immediate possession.)
  • Must pass the Security Department’s assessment test.
  • California Responsible Beverage Service Training required upon hire.
  • Must be age 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and professionally in the English language, including the ability to write reports that can be understood by the CEO, COO, General Manager, Tribal Council, legal staff, court officers, and law enforcement.
  • Ability to type 30 wpm (a skills test is required).
  • Working knowledge computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point).
  • Knowledge of the principles of supervision and training.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have a high degree of common sense.
  • Ability to prepare clear and accurate reports.
  • Ability to resolve problems as they arise and handle situations without supervision.
  • Ability to analyze situations and act quickly and calmly, especially in emergencies.
  • Ability to create and deliver training projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of guests or team members of the organization.
  • Basic mathematical skills, such as the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to work in a professional high-pressure environment while demonstrating and maintaining good personal relation/people skills and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to multitask and work well under stress.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to adjust to change.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours during the day or evening including weekends, holidays, and all blackout dates.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 to 2 years of military service, security, and/or law enforcement experience an/pr training preferred.
  • Supervisor/management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the training and documentation of new officers to ensure they can perform all necessary tasks.
  • Coaches and counsels Team Members on training related issues and how to improve their performance.
  • Prepares and administers training tests, evaluations, and scenarios.
  • Performs the duties of a security or Patrol officer, to include patrolling of Viejas properties, reservation, and special events.
  • Maintains functional knowledge of casino policies and procedures, minimum internal control standards, regulations, and other required subject matter.
  • Notifies and makes recommendations to the Sergeants in possible area of concern and/or recognition.
  • Acts as field supervisor in the absence of Security Sergeant, when assigned.
  • Reports and documents violations of regulatory functions such as Tribal Gaming Ordinance, GCR, Tribal Resolutions, Tribal Ordinances, and/or instructions, NIGC, MIC's, Policies and Procedures, and criminal violations as defined in the California Penal Code to the Security Sergeant.
  • Responds to emergency alarms associated with fire, presence of unauthorized persons, and/or critical incidences. Calls the Communication Center, notifies proper authorities, secures, and controls all tribal assets, and permits authorized persons to enter property.
  • Responds and resolves guest and team member inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Performs First Aid, CPR and AED as needed.
  • Ensures that a clean, safe, hazard-free work environment is maintained.
  • Adheres to all company and department policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May provide supervision to other team members in absence of the Security Sergeant.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training team members; documenting training progression, scheduling work; providing performance feedback; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
