About The Position

The Systems Engineering and Test Capabilities (SETC) Long Range Radars (LRR) department is seeking a Section Leader, Principal Systems Engineer to support the career development, engagement, and performance of engineers. In this role, you will ensure effective staffing across programs while fostering a healthy, productive team culture. Section Leader responsibilities are performed part-time, and candidates must also hold a full-time technical or program role within the department. This is an onsite role based in Woburn, MA. By serving as a Section Leader, you will gain valuable leadership experience, strengthen your coaching and people-development skills, and build broader organizational awareness. This role offers the opportunity to influence staffing decisions, support team growth, and collaborate closely with functional and program leadership. Section Leaders also expand their professional network, deepen their understanding of workforce planning, and enhance their visibility across the department—all while continuing to advance in their primary technical or program role.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with defensive radar systems and/or Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence systems.
  • Experience leading technical teams.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and career development support for section members.
  • Conduct regular performance discussions, including goal-setting and feedback.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and retention activities.
  • Foster a supportive, collaborative environment that promotes growth and engagement.
  • Partner with program and functional leadership to understand workforce needs and resolve staffing challenges.
  • Champion continuous improvement in engineering practices, workflow, and team culture.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities such as timekeeping, training compliance, and salary planning.
