About The Position

This position is responsible for scheduling outpatient appointments, obtaining and verifying insurance and billing information, and providing phone reception. The role also involves creating, managing, and scanning chart notes, registering patient accounts, auditing information for accuracy, and performing front desk reception duties. The secretary will support a collaborative and cooperative environment and may perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to type 70 wpm
  • Experience in data entry, computer and word processing
  • Excellent spelling and problem-solving skills
  • Telephone skills
  • Ability to work independently and with co-workers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and professionals
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and attend to detail
  • Must be able to work independently as well as with co-workers and patients.
  • Must be able to prioritize work demands and organize time efficiently.
  • Must be able to deal effectively with the stress of deadlines and frequent constant interruptions.
  • Able to stand, walk, and sit frequently.
  • Possesses adequate reaction time to respond quickly to unexpected patient care situations.
  • Must be able to walk/maneuver frequently in and around the building and be able to operate several different desktop devices, computer, scanner, phone etc.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules outpatient appointments with scheduling tools and per department protocol.
  • Obtains and verifies insurance and billing information.
  • Accurately processes information for all insurance types and obtains necessary information for unfamiliar insurance types.
  • Provides phone reception utilizing excellent service excellence techniques.
  • Creates, manages, and scans chart notes to assist clinicians with patient care and following regulatory requirements.
  • Registers patient accounts and audits/monitors information for accuracy and to ensure proper billing.
  • Provides front desk reception duties, involving leadership when a situation has the potential to escalate or to receive recognition for staff.
  • Performs all job functions in a timely, efficient, and effective manner as part of a team.
  • Supports a collaborative and cooperative environment to facilitate mutual respect and effective interpersonal relations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
