About The Position

The Freeport Corps is seeking a Secretary/Social Worker to manage social services operations. This role involves attending to client needs, coordinating volunteers and community service individuals, managing the food pantry, and assisting with various corps activities and public relations events. Confidentiality and strong organizational skills are essential.

Requirements

  • Strong communications and organizational skills.
  • Responsible, respectful, positive role model, and able to follow instructions.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Social Services.
  • Well organized and sensitive to individual cases.
  • Bilingual (English / Spanish).
  • Proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office, Word, and others as required.

Responsibilities

  • Attend all calls regarding Social Services.
  • Share information with the Corps Commanding Officer regarding the total welfare of Social Services at the Corps.
  • Complete intake applications on clients monthly.
  • Prepare Thrift Store Assistance Vouchers when necessary.
  • Prepare and distribute grocery/food bags to clients.
  • Take inventory of Food Pantry items, call in orders, and ensure all HPNAP monies are spent by the deadline.
  • Make monthly orders from the Food Bank and stock shelves.
  • Sort all donated food, checking for and discarding outdated/damaged materials.
  • Coordinate the annual food drive by US postal workers.
  • Recruit and monitor volunteers for Social Services, ensuring proper paperwork is completed.
  • Assist in coordinating the annual volunteer thank you luncheon.
  • Coordinate community service individuals and secure/file proper documentation.
  • Report required documentation of Community service individuals to County/City officials.
  • Assist in the applications process of Corps summer activities, as campers for Star Lake Camp/VBS programs.
  • Respond to correspondence pertaining to social services.
  • Assist in aspects of public relations events and campaigns assigned by the corps officer, including the Christmas kettle campaign.
  • Fulfill any other tasks that may be assigned on an as-needed basis requested by the commanding officer.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Be responsible for opening and closing the building when required.
