Requirements

  • High School graduate (Required).
  • Advanced training/ knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Computer proficiency required.
  • Previous patient scheduling experience required.
  • Proficient in MS Word.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Proficient use of medical terminology required.
  • Ability to schedule patients appropriately, based on departmental policy.
  • Recognize and understand urgent requests, and respond appropriately.
  • Must maintain good communication skills with those in the department as well as those with whom we are in contact with by telephone.
  • Requires understanding others' perspectives to reach decisions regarding scheduling, as well as other decisions.

Nice To Haves

  • CPT coding experience preferred.
  • Cardiology experience preferred.
  • Clinical secretarial and registration experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules all tests in the Respiratory Therapy Area for inpatients and outpatients using Epic.
  • Ensures proper Medical Necessity in scheduling.
  • Explains ABN forms to patients and answers questions about them.
  • Answers patient questions about testing procedures.
  • Answers incoming calls, triages and directs them appropriately, and takes messages.
  • Finds and faxes reports, checks schedules, schedules patients, and gives instructions.
  • Assists with clerical needs of the department, including copying, mailing, filing, and faxing reports.
  • Sorts and distributes mail.
  • Maintains testing logs, accumulates statistical and quality data, and submits monthly reports.
  • Maintains proper inventory of office and medical-surgical supplies.
  • Assists in maintaining patient flow through the department.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to professional growth and competence by attending educational meetings and classes.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Participates in other projects and activities of the organization.
  • Supports organizational policies and procedures regarding dress codes, identification badges, work schedules, and PTO time.
  • Promotes a professional self-image and maintains a positive attitude.
  • Participates in performance appraisal and identifies goals with manager.
  • Assists in other areas of the department.
  • Cleans work area as necessary.
  • Completes work left from previous shift as necessary.
  • Reports suggestions for positive changes or recommendations to the coordinator.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities and performs other related duties as assigned.
