About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Secretary in the Respiratory Therapy department at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The role involves scheduling tests, managing patient communication, handling clerical duties, and supporting departmental operations. Requirements

  • High School graduate
  • Advanced training/knowledge of medical terminology
  • Computer proficiency required
  • Previous patient scheduling experience required
  • Proficient in MS Word
  • Demonstrated customer service skills
  • Proficient use of medical terminology required

Nice To Haves

  • CPT coding experience preferred
  • Cardiology experience preferred
  • Clinical secretarial and registration experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Schedule all tests in the Respiratory Therapy Area for inpatients and outpatients using Epic, ensuring proper Medical Necessity.
  • Explain ABN forms to patients and answer their questions regarding these forms and testing procedures.
  • Answer incoming calls with excellent customer service, triage and direct calls appropriately, and take messages.
  • Find and fax reports, check schedules, schedule patients, and provide instructions.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of PCs and office equipment, and a comprehensive understanding of Medicare Guidelines, especially regarding Medical Necessity.
  • Proficiently use the Internet to access the Adminastar website for monthly updates.
  • Use discretion when discussing patient matters and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Assist with clerical needs of the department, including copying, mailing, filing, and faxing reports, and sorting/distributing mail.
  • Maintain testing logs, accumulate statistical and quality data, and complete/submit monthly reports.
  • Maintain proper inventory of office and medical surgical supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining patient flow through the department.
  • Demonstrate commitment to professional growth and competence by attending educational meetings and classes, and staff meetings.
  • Participate in other projects and activities of the organization.
  • Support organizational policies and procedures regarding dress codes, identification badges, work schedules, and PTO time.
  • Promote a professional self-image and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Participate in performance appraisal, identify goals, and review progress with manager or clinical coordinator annually.
  • Assist in other areas of the department as needed.
  • Clean work area as necessary.
  • Complete work left from previous shift as necessary.
  • Report suggestions for positive changes or recommendations within departmental policies and procedures to the coordinator.
  • Assume additional responsibilities and perform other related duties as assigned.
