About The Position

You will serve as a Secretary (Office Automation) with the Bureau of Land Management. This role provides principal administrative support to the Utah State Director's Office. Duties include processing employee time and attendance, making small purchases, managing credit cards, handling human resource records, screening calls and visitors, controlling incoming and outgoing correspondence, maintaining records, and following up on actions. You will also manage the calendars of the State Director and Associate State Director, schedule appointments, coordinate travel arrangements, and arrange meetings, conferences, and luncheons. Duties may be developmental in nature if filled below the full performance level.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Direct Deposit participation required.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Cannot hold an active real estate license, nor have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands.
  • Must be able to type 40 words per minute.
  • May be required to serve a 1-year probationary period or 2-year trial period.
  • All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 10/08/2026.
  • Must meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
  • For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50.
  • For periods of time reflecting military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient.
  • For all other applicants, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week.
  • Minimum Qualification Requirements (GS-07 level): At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service, defined as demonstrated experience: Assisting with scheduling, correspondence and briefings; operating computers and software applications to generate various reports; and attending and reporting minutes of meetings.
  • Minimum Qualification Requirements (GS-08 level): At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 level in the Federal service, defined as demonstrated experience: Developing and implementing internal office administrative procedures and guidelines; processing complex travel authorizations and bookings; and providing technical guidance for timekeeping related tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Secretary and principal administrative support for the Utah State Director's Office.
  • Process employee time and attendance documents.
  • Make small purchases such as office supplies and equipment.
  • Manage credit cards.
  • Handle human resource records.
  • Screen all calls and visitors to determine the nature of the call and provide routine information or route callers to appropriate personnel.
  • Receive and control incoming and outgoing correspondence, reports, memoranda, and other forms of written communication.
  • Maintain records on all correspondence and action documents and follow up to ensure timely reply or action.
  • Maintain the State Director and Associate State Director's calendars.
  • Establish priority and schedule appointments based on importance and timeliness of the subject and knowledge of the existing schedule.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for the State Director and the Associate State Director, including researching, booking, preparing itineraries, and assembling necessary documents/information.
  • Arrange meetings, conferences, and luncheons for the State Director and staff, including selecting times, reserving rooms, preparing agendas, notifying participants, attending meetings, and preparing reports of proceedings.
  • Perform developmental duties if filled below the full performance level.
