About The Position

The Secondary Special Education Teacher will be responsible for resource room classes and/or co-teaching core curriculum. This role involves developing and implementing appropriate grade-level content expectations and activities for students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with a general education teacher, and writing/implementing IEPs for students on their caseload. The teacher will also be responsible for developing and implementing specially designed instruction for students and must possess the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, outside agencies, and district staff.

Requirements

Teacher certification with any of the following special education endorsements: LD, CI, ASD, EI
Teacher certification and/or willingness to obtain special education endorsement
Highly Qualified status
Basic knowledge of child development as well as experience applying this knowledge to appropriate developmental activities
Knowledge of teaching and learning styles including multiple intelligences, auditory, kinesthetic, visual, and language modalities
Strong data collection and data analysis skills
Exceptional communication skills including both oral and written skills
Strong interpersonal skills along with the ability to be flexible
Experience using assistive technology coupled with basic technology skills

Responsibilities

Develop and implement appropriate grade-level content expectations and activities for students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with a general education teacher.
Write and implement IEPs for students on caseload.
Develop and implement specially designed instruction for students.
Communicate effectively with all students, their parents/guardians, outside agencies, and district staff.
Conduct classroom experience involving differentiated teaching and specially designed instruction.
Apply knowledge of child development to appropriate developmental activities.
Utilize knowledge of teaching and learning styles including multiple intelligences, auditory, kinesthetic, visual, and language modalities.
Collect and analyze data.
Conduct IEP meetings and complete IEP-related documentation in conformance with the MI Special Education and IDEA rules.
Conduct student classroom assessments and prepare reports as part of the Multidisciplinary Education Team (MET).
Report services provided as required by Medicaid.
Maintain attendance records and other data, records, and reports required by the program supervisor.
Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Stockbridge Community School District and Ingham ISD.
Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings.
Maintain punctual, reliable, and predictable attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
