About The Position

The Curriculum Facilitator, having both content and instructional expertise, will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to lead and support curriculum development and implementation. The Curriculum Facilitator will follow the board policy regarding the curriculum cycle process. The Curriculum Facilitator will focus on increasing and improving high school science instruction.

Requirements

  • A valid Iowa teaching certificate
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education or acceptable content area
  • A minimum of three years teaching experience
  • One year experience within the District
  • Must possess proper state certification and licensure for the position.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization, including staff, principals, and central administration.
  • Effective listening skills
  • Influencing/persuasion skills when working with staff and principals on curriculum issues and instructional strategies to embrace and implement change intended to positively impact student achievement.
  • Effective facilitator in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to facilitate group meetings and facilitate large and small group professional development.
  • Ability to plan both long-term and short-term.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to organize and assimilate information, assessment data, scheduling, and other needs within the District.
  • Solid background in assessment and ability to interpret data, which may be very complex and varied.
  • Ability to apply assessment strategies and link assessment data analysis to school improvement, curriculum, and professional development.
  • Competent in research and information gathering through technology.
  • Capability to collect and sort data through technology.
  • Ability to present and communicate through technology is required, including spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and web-based information.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Board policies, District procedures, and contractual obligations.
  • Works collaboratively with high school science teachers to develop and implement curricular materials and assessments that support instruction aligned to the Iowa Core Standards.
  • Develops and delivers professional development that aligns the content and instruction of the high school science curriculum.
  • Develops and demonstrates lessons using research-based practices.
  • Develops and models effective, differentiated instruction.
  • Understands the need to serve special populations of learners.
  • Supports and encourages the use of technology embedded in instruction.
  • Manages, orders, and distributes science materials, and works within the science budget.
  • Manages, compiles, and analyzes high school District science assessment data. Data is used to determine appropriate instructional decisions.
  • Provides support to teachers through a strength-based approach; support to teachers will be provided with positive terms and not evaluative.
  • Provides professional development for teachers with a focus on improving student achievement.
  • Supports teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
  • Engages 100% of the time as a Curriculum Facilitator.
  • Works collaboratively and collegially with district administrators, building principals, PLCs, teachers, and other staff.

Benefits

  • The Curriculum Facilitator retains the regular teaching contract and shall be issued a supplemental contract for a one-year assignment to the Curriculum Facilitator role.
  • The supplemental contract will be for additional work on an “as needed” basis beyond the career teacher contract.
  • The scope of the work to be completed for the additional contract days will be determined by the District Leadership Team.
  • $2,000 stipend
