About The Position

Goodwill of Colorado is seeking an experienced and high-energy Secondary Markets Manager at our Colorado Springs Outlet! Supervisory or management experience in warehouse, logistics, retail, or similar industries is required for this position. The Manager II, Secondary Markets will lead the operations team at our outlet store and salvage and recycling facility located at our Retail Support Center. They will be responsible for meeting revenue and net income from operations goals as well as improving waste diversion. They will be responsible for ensuring customers/donors receive the highest level of customer service at this non-traditional shopping experience and maintaining an “Attitude of Gratitude” to support the mission of the organization. The Manager will also manage the recycling operations of the Retail Support Center (RSC) (with the assistance of Salvage/Recycling Coordinator and the Manager, Sustainability, Recycling, and Salvage). In this role, the manager will be responsible for all aspects of processing and preparing for sale of the recycled and salvageable goods processing system. This position offers you the opportunity to play an influential and visible role as our company grows. Requirements

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • At least two (2) years’ experience in retail sales.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in warehousing operations
  • At least two (2) years of proven experience in employee supervision, employee on-the-job training, administrative functions, customer relations, and general store operations required.
  • Proficient in the utilization of office equipment, office software (i.e. Word, Excel) and web-based applications (i.e. UKG,) to meet the needs of employees and the organization.
  • Ability to manage corporate email and calendar (i.e. Outlook).
  • Administrative functions, customer relations, cash register operations, and general office applications are required to include record-keeping skills and computer knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of point-of-sale systems is a must.
  • Ability to not only use a computer, but to help employees use one also.
  • High-energy, critical thinker, with strong organization skills to manage people and scheduling, and the ability to work within a deadline-pressured environment.
  • Must be a creative, independent thinker with strong attention to detail.

  • Able to obtain Powered Equipment Operator certification to safely operate equipment. Ability to operate hydraulic baler and forklift. Ability to be forklift certified.

  • Must be able to work varied schedules to include weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Must be able to work any hours necessary to provide complete outlet store coverage and supervision.
  • Applicants/employees will be required to undergo a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and background check; applicants/employees must disclose all moving traffic violations or vehicle crashes (within the last five (5) years)(Note: not all violations are a disqualification for employment and each case will be reviewed by the insurance carrier); must have valid Colorado State driver license; must also be able to operate company vehicle, and adhere to all Federal, State, and local laws governing vehicle operation.
  • Applicants/employees using their personal vehicle for company business (receiving company mileage reimbursement), must have valid vehicle insurance, valid driver license, and vehicle must be in roadworthy condition.

Nice To Haves

  • A college degree is preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in thrift store retail operations is desirable.
  • It is preferred that the incumbent have the ability to drive for company business.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the efficient flow of merchandise onto the sales floor in an outlet environment. Ensure pricing is within pricing guidelines. Make sure the outlet store is clean, ensuring the center’s appearance is always at its best. May operate a cash register.
  • Able to operate and train on the use of the tipper for the boats and drive a forklift. Able to obtain Powered Equipment Operator certification to safely operate equipment. Ability to operate hydraulic baler and forklift. Ability to be forklift certified.
  • Hire, supervise, and discipline staff assigned to the department.
  • Conduct personnel interviews.
  • Conduct employee evaluations and present them to employees before the due date.
  • Train all department personnel in proper sorting and handling of all material.
  • Schedule staffing to accommodate special and seasonal requirements.
  • Increase the effectiveness of our mission efforts by creatively motivating and empowering staff to perform to their highest potential. Provide leadership, training, and support to all subordinates in all areas. Ensure continuity of operations at all levels. Ensure open communication.
  • Ensure intensive training of newly assigned personnel and provide frequent refresher training throughout the department, with special emphasis on safety, maximization of department’s sorting potential.
  • Evaluate all employees and assess deficiencies to develop peak performance.
  • Promote harmony within and between all employees under your supervision. Consistently apply and implement Goodwill of Colorado’s policies and procedures to protect Goodwill from legal liability. Report any situation to the Retail Support Center Manager that may require attention or action. Provide recommendations and workable solutions whenever possible.
  • Works with the Assistant Managers and Supervisors to ensure that all clerical, administrative, and operational duties and procedures are accomplished timely and accurately, be able to perform all functions necessary to open and close the outlet store, assist the RSC Manager in preparing the annual budget.
  • Works with the Supervisor, Recycling, to increase the efficiency of our recycling operations through effective organization and management of processes and activities, as well as by diligent coaching and development of our recycling staff.
  • Help to ensure a member of the outlet store staff participates as a member of the Goodwill safety committee.
  • Implement procedures in safety and security; respond to all alarm and law enforcement calls.
  • Work cooperatively with all department heads to ensure the most effective and efficient handling of donated goods.
