About The Position

The Secondary Library Specialist supports the instructional, operational, and technological functions of the school library by providing students and staff with equitable access to library resources, instructional technology, and learning support services. This position serves as the primary manager of the library's daily operations, including collection development, circulation, technology asset management, assessment support, student supervision, and library information systems. The Secondary Library Specialist creates a welcoming, organized, and student-centered learning environment while collaborating with teachers, administrators, district departments, and families to support student achievement. The position requires strong organizational, technology, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a dynamic educational setting.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience working in a library, media center, educational technology, or school setting preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail) and other educational technology applications.
Experience with library management systems such as Follett Destiny preferred.
Working knowledge of student information systems and inventory management systems preferred.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain accurate records and confidential information.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with students and staff.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently bend, stoop, reach, and move library materials and equipment.
Bilingual skills preferred.
Demonstrated record of reliable attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

Manage the daily operation of the school library.
Catalog, process, circulate, shelve, and maintain library materials.
Develop and maintain an organized, accessible, and inviting library environment.
Assist with collection development by evaluating, selecting, ordering, and processing new library materials consistent with curriculum and student needs.
Maintain accurate library inventory and conduct periodic inventory audits.
Repair, replace, and maintain library books and materials.
Manage overdue materials, fines, fees, and replacement procedures in accordance with district policies.
Coordinate school literacy-related events.
Maintain library budgets, purchasing records, purchase orders, and related documentation.
Utilize Destiny and other library management systems to maintain accurate circulation, catalog, and inventory records.
Schedule and coordinate library space usage.
Manage the school's Chromebook inventory and accountability system.
Issue, collect, exchange, and track student and staff Chromebooks, chargers, and related technology equipment.
Maintain accurate device inventory using district tracking systems.
Troubleshoot basic Chromebook, printer, and technology issues.
Submit, monitor, and coordinate technology support requests through Incident IQ or other district systems.
Assist students with password resets, account access, and basic technology support.
Coordinate with District Technology Services regarding repairs, replacements, warranties, and inventory.
Prepare technology devices for classroom instruction, district assessments, and other school activities.
Coordinate logistics for district, state, and national assessments as assigned.
Complete any required training to administer assessments.
Prepare, distribute, collect, inventory, and secure testing materials and technology.
Assist teachers and administrators with testing setup and administration.
Proctor district and state assessments in accordance with testing security protocols.
Maintain confidentiality of assessment materials and student information.
Supervise students as assigned.
Foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment.
Assist students in locating print and digital instructional resources.
Support students with research, information literacy, and use of library technology.
Provide academic assistance individually or in small groups under the direction of certificated staff.
Utilize appropriate behavior management strategies and interventions.
Demonstrate empathy, patience, professionalism, and sound judgment in working with students.
Maintain accurate records using district software systems.
Maintain accurate student, library, inventory, and technology records.
Generate reports and documentation as requested.
Protect confidential student and district information.
Monitor and maintain library equipment.
Ensure equipment is operational and stocked with necessary supplies.
Coordinate repairs and maintenance with appropriate departments.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with students, families, teachers, administrators, and district staff.
Collaborate with certificated staff to support instructional programs and student learning.
Attend district library meetings, professional development, and required training.
Maintain regular communication through district email and other communication systems.
Assist with schoolwide activities, projects, and initiatives as assigned.
Meet performance expectations established by the Moses Lake School District.
Complete required state and district training.
Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, initiative, and a positive attitude.
Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information.
