About The Position

Hemlock Public School District is seeking a Secondary ELA Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will build strong relationships with students, deliver instruction using research-based strategies, and plan and implement high-quality lessons aligned with state standards. This role involves using various assessment tools, establishing a positive classroom environment, engaging in professional learning communities, and collaborating with colleagues, support staff, and families.

Requirements

Valid Michigan teaching certificate with an English (BA) certification.
Meet requirements for a background check and fingerprinting.
Successful experience working with middle school-age students.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge of content expectations/standards pertinent to the grade level.
Knowledge of best practices in classroom instruction and technology integration.
Experience working as part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

Deliver instruction using research-based strategies across whole-group, small-group, and individualized settings.
Plan and implement high-quality lessons that align with state standards and integrate best practices such as explicit instruction, checks for understanding, and differentiated supports.
Use a variety of formative and summative assessment tools to monitor student progress, inform instructional decisions, and provide timely, targeted feedback.
Establish a structured, respectful classroom environment by consistently applying proactive classroom management techniques, restorative practices, and positive behavior supports.
Actively engage in professional learning communities to analyze student data, co-plan lessons, and reflect on instructional practices.
Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and families to foster a culture of academic excellence and a positive school climate.
Accept and perform additional administrative responsibilities as assigned.
