About The Position

The Second Shift Warehouse Supervisor leads a team of Warehouse Associates to meet operational goals while ensuring safety, productivity, and compliance with OSHA and company standards. Working in both warehouse and cooler/freezer environments, this role oversees the movement of perishable and non-perishable food products through Philabundance’s distribution network. The Supervisor provides hands-on leadership, coaching, training, and performance management to support team success and operational efficiency. Typical responsibilities include overseeing order selection, staging, verification, warehouse sanitation, and the safe use of equipment and facilities, with occasional involvement in shipping, receiving, and inventory put-away. The team generally works from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; however, flexibility is required to support staggered schedules, evenings, weekends, overtime, and varying work locations based on operational needs. The Supervisor is responsible for scheduling and communication to maintain appropriate staffing levels and ensure smooth operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of heavy equipment experience, ideally in a grocery or food-focused industry.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a night supervisor or in a similar second shift leadership role is preferred.
  • Previous experience handling escalations, providing solutions, and leading directly or indirectly.
  • Previous work in a team environment with deadlines, detail, safety, and large equipment.
  • Previous experience with organization, shared goals, and defined instructions.
  • Warehouse experience using forklift, pallet jack, and other equipment used to move products.
  • Previous experience working within a defined operating system, following directions, consistent placement, and tracking.
  • Experience using standard warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks, man-ups, and reach trucks, is required.
  • Must be able to train and certify others in forklift use.
  • Ability to diffuse escalations and offer options and solutions aligned with Philabundance's business practices and mission.
  • Ability to take responsibility for the outcome of others and resolve issues.
  • Ability to read, write, and complete basic math to support inventory, space calculations, and tracking as needed.
  • Must be able to tolerate some extreme temperatures when moving food and products through the inventory and shipping process.
  • Ability to use email, input data into a database, and learn new technical skills and apply them to work habits.
  • Ability to safely operate large equipment and work around mechanical machines and people.
  • Ability to move 50 pounds safely, in line with team activities.
  • Ability to learn and work well within a defined operating system, follow directions, and perform consistent placement and tracking.

  • A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required to be eligible to drive Philabundance vehicles.
  • Bend, stop, crouch, climb, stand, sit, walk, and turn/pivot throughout an 8-hour shift, 5 days a week.
  • Move/lower, push/pull, and carry objects/parcels no greater than 50 pounds; when moving/lowering, pushing/pulling, and carrying objects/parcels greater than 50 pounds, use 2 people or mechanical assistance.
  • Ability to work inside a freezer with a temperature in the range of -10 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit, as well as in a humid warehouse.
  • Move packages to heights above shoulder and lower to foot level.
  • Ability to operate pallet jack, both manual and power, and ride jack to load/unload trucks.
  • Reach, grasp, and maintain control of items and materials used to perform activities associated with delivering and picking up packages.
  • Perform additional tasks using simple hand grasp, fine hand manipulation, and reach associated with assigned tasks such as keying.
  • Maintain a work pace aligned with meeting or exceeding piece per minute/production standards.
  • Work in an environment that will contain variable temperatures and humidity, outside weather conditions, exposure to noise, dust/dirt, and confined work areas.
  • Must meet all the applicable requirements as specified by OSHA.
  • See, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper safety conditions.
  • Maintain an acceptable work pace and align with required personal and team deadlines. Must meet goals.

  • Administrative capability to work with databases, produce reports, communicate, analyze, and present internally and externally is preferred. (Microsoft suite, PPT, database exp., and Zoom/Teams)
  • Previous experience owning and influencing a complex process to a positive, defined outcome.
  • Basics of management, including attendance, performance, rewards, discipline, and training.
  • Familiarity with on-time delivery standards and quality requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, or establish, and execute processes and procedures (SOP’s) for picking and staging agency partners’ orders.
  • Manage the agency order selection process by setting Warehouse Associate standards and goals and monitoring their work, coaching when necessary, and praising them when appropriate. To expedite driver loading the following day, manage the order staging process. Ensure orders are placed in the correct staging location lane(s) and that pallet labels are accurate. Verify the accuracy of the orders after they are staged. Confirm that the items selected and quantities match the agency order.
  • Track the Warehouse Associate’s production numbers (cases or lines per hour) and order selection accuracy.
  • To always remain audit-ready, oversee the daily, weekly, and monthly follow-through of cleaning, sanitation, OSHA, and food safety requirements, roles, and responsibilities assigned to Warehouse.
  • Manage team resources to ensure appropriate support is available, including work planning, attendance, performance, training, and staffing.
  • Able to operate forklifts and pallet jacks, and other large equipment, and certify others.
  • Exemplify a high level of positive customer service; professionally communicate with customers/volunteers in a courteous manner and respect agency personnel and clientele.
  • Identify, track, and provide timely reporting of warehouse activity, inventory statuses, quality control, and team and staff performance levels, including attendance, customer service, and production levels.
  • Manage warehouse health and efficiency, including ownership of a clean work environment, safety standards, responsible food handling standards (Serve Safe), and collaboration with internal and external customers.
  • Manage the identification and development of solutions for problem areas, creative and proactive thought for improvements, and the resolution of roadblocks by the entire team.
  • Manage preliminary reporting through available tools, with consistent attention to detail and metrics established and maintained with warehouse leadership. Ensure utilization of appropriate tools, from moving product to time tracking.
