About The Position

The Fairmont Chateau Laurier hotel in Ottawa is looking to fill the role of Second Cook. This position reports to the Culinary Leadership Team and is responsible for preparing, cooking, and servicing food items according to hotel recipes and standards, ensuring cleanliness of work areas and equipment, and maintaining knowledge of menu items and promotions. The role also requires adherence to kitchen policies, safety, and sanitation standards.

Requirements

• Previous experience in the culinary field required
• Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
• Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
• Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
• Ensure quality standards and safety standards are met

Nice To Haves

• Journeyman’s papers or international equivalent an asset
• Diploma/Certification in a Culinary discipline an asset

Responsibilities

• Consistently offer professional, friendly and proactive guest service while supporting fellow Colleagues
• Prepare, cook and service all food items for a la carte and/or buffet menus according to hotel recipes and standards
• Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of all work areas, utensils, and equipment
• Have full knowledge of all menu items, daily features and promotions
• Follow kitchen policies, procedures and service standards
• Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage
• Assist in various kitchen duties
• Prepare all mise-en-place for different areas of the kitchen
• Other duties as assigned
