Seasonal Store Advisor
About The Position
MEC is more than a store; it's a hub for the outdoor community, a leader in sustainability, and a place where individuals can be themselves. Members visit MEC for gear and advice on a wide range of outdoor activities including hiking, camping, climbing, cycling, watersports, snowsports, and travel. The Seasonal Store Advisor will assist members in planning their adventures, from dream trips to weekend getaways, catering to both first-time adventurers and seasoned experts. The role offers the chance to work with incredible coworkers, with the overwhelming feedback from staff being that their favorite aspect of working at MEC is "the people."
Requirements
- Ability to work with a diverse, inclusive, hands-on, collaborative team.
- Passion for the outdoors.
- Product knowledge in camping, cycling, packs, or any other outdoor activity is a great asset.
- Desire to connect people with quality products to encourage active outdoor lives.
- A "can do" attitude and willingness to learn new things.
- Skills include personal integrity and awareness, customer focus, initiative and character, teamwork, and the ability to develop yourself and others.
- A good-natured, outgoing, welcoming demeanor and a genuine liking for helping people.
- Customer service as a mindset, going out of your way to provide an excellent member experience.
- Ability to lift 50 lb. and walk 10,000 steps per day.
- Previous retail or customer service experience is a plus, not a must.
- Curiosity about gear and a desire to learn more; training will be provided.
- Fully open availability to work Saturdays, Sundays, and at least one weekday.
- Availability to work Thursdays and Fridays is a bonus.

Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional member service by matching people with gear that suits their needs.
- Share real-world experience about products.
- Assist with visual merchandising.
- Lend a hand to other staffers.
- Organize inventory and ensure members receive the products they need.
- Spread the word about MEC events and services.
- Learn about new products, technology, and features, including sustainability aspects.
- Help more people in Canada get active outside, whether planning for a family camping trip or a backcountry expedition.
- Chat with members about products and connect them with what they're looking for.
- Ask open-ended questions to understand members' needs.
- Share product knowledge and industry-leading advice on gear, including personal recommendations.
- Be part of a team of staffers who take pride in keeping the store in tip-top shape.
