About The Position

The Seasonal Sports & Events Coordinator will serve as after-hours assistance with all nights and weekend basketball practices, games and related work as required. This position will assist with weeknight and weekend sports activities; provide information and assistance regarding program guidelines and policies; and enforce applicable rules and regulations. This position is essential to the overall operation of the Sports & Events Division. Serves as after-hours contact for all Local Sports Partners and Parks & Recreation Rovers; helps maintain attendance reports, activity logs, incident/accident reports and related records. We’re looking for someone who can walk in on their first day ready to learn, ask questions, take the lead in understanding our organization’s operations, and begin building relationships. That said, we will always support you and provide guidance, but there is an expectation that you can work quickly and independently, take ownership of assignments, and help lead staff to get things done.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; two years of college coursework and/or related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A current, valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.
  • Based on the Virginia DMV point system, driving records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
  • Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at the time of interview.
  • Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of the interview date.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, an FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification are required.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with staff, local sports partners, associations, program users, and the public.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to effectively manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • An understanding of athletics and the use of fields and facilities.
  • Proficiency with computer software and office equipment.
