About The Position

The Coral Springs Police Department is seeking a Seasonal School Resource Officer to ensure the general safety and security of their assigned school. This role involves partnering with a full-time School Resource Officer and holding the same level of authority and responsibility as full-time Law Enforcement Officers. The officer's authority extends beyond the school confines, requiring them to take action when circumstances dictate or when called upon by a Commanding Officer. The department is nationally accredited and committed to providing a high level of professional service, aiming to be a premier city to live, work, and raise a family.

Requirements

  • Previous full-time certified law enforcement experience.
  • If Florida certification is not held, Florida certification must be successfully attained within the first year of employment.
  • Must have separated or retired from all prior law enforcement agencies in good standing.
  • Must have successfully completed the modified or full agility course at the Broward College Institute of Public Safety within the preceding 6-months of their application date.
  • Must have successfully completed the swim test at the Broward College Institute of Public Safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Florida law enforcement certification (if not already held, must be obtained within the first year).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the general safety and security of their assigned school.
  • Partner with a full-time School Resource Officer from a neighboring school to assist in the execution of duties.
  • Take action when circumstances dictate or when called upon to do so by a Commanding Officer of the Department, even outside the confines of the assigned school.

  • $10,000 Retention Bonus Payable in equal installments during the course of the school year (pro-rated based on hire date).
  • 16 wellbeing hours which are non-accruing and not payable at separation.
  • All equipment necessary for duties will be provided.
  • A take-home vehicle will be provided for a nominal monthly fee to offset fuel cost (vehicle use restricted to school year, commuting, and official business).
  • Up to 40 hours annually of paid training, typically occurring over school holidays, teacher workdays, or during summer break.
  • Quarterly reviews for the first year of employment, then bi-annual reviews thereafter.
