About The Position

This position is a temporary, unclassified appointment not to exceed 1,000 hours. Hours may vary based on operational need, with potential to work up to 40 hours per week. The role involves performing preventative maintenance and service on cars, trucks, and equipment, as well as minor repairs and other related mechanical work. Maintaining records of repairs and maintenance is also a key responsibility. The selection process includes a structured interview, and all new hires to ODOT must serve a one-year probationary period. This position is overtime eligible based on FLSA Standards and is unclassified per ORC Section 124.11(A)(29).

Requirements

  • 24 months of experience in automotive repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and/or all types of equipment identified by the agency.
  • Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of a type and size regulated by sections 4506.01 and 4506.12 of the Ohio revised code.
  • Must register as a driver in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
  • Must submit to urinalysis prior to appointment to test for illegal drug use. Medical marijuana is prohibited as a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test.
  • Must undergo a criminal background check.
