About The Position

Performs a wide range of maintenance, repair and construction tasks to ensure proper operation and safe utilization of the City’s parks and public grounds.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older.
• One year of related work experience.
• Must possess, and maintain, a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools.
• Ability to work in a group or independently.
• Ability to do physical work and lifting.
• Ability to safely and effectively operate a wide range of vehicles, equipment, and tools necessary for maintenance tasks.
• Ability to communicate ideas and explanations clearly in English.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional working relationships with co-workers and supervisors.
• Ability to comprehend and communicate the policies, practices, and services of the Public Works Division and to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
• Ability to learn and fully utilize Department's asset management software for reporting and record keeping, and timesheet systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, operating manuals, and safety guidelines.

Nice To Haves

• Fluency in a second language, in addition to English, that has a recognized presence in the community (Spanish, Russian, Hmong, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Mowing, maintain landscape areas in the downtown area, parks and along some rights-of-way.
• Water trees, shrubs or plants and hanging flower baskets.
• Mulching, trimming small shrubs/trees in landscape areas, pulling weeds, and picking-up garbage.
• Painting park building, benches, signs, removal of graffiti, cleaning of park shelters and buildings.
• Entering information into an iPad.
• Other tasks, duties and projects as assigned.
