2 Billion Trees Seasonal Labourer
About The Position
The Métis Nation–Saskatchewan Home and Future Forests Initiative aim to encourage and advance tree planting in Saskatchewan. New planting efforts being pursed through this program will contribute to the restoration of habitat and provide a multitude of other social, cultural, environmental and economic benefits. Under the general supervision of the Climate Projects Specialist, the Seasonal Labourer will directly assist with the planting and care of 10,000 trees on the festival grounds at the Batoche National Historic Site. Work activities include preparation for planting, tree planting and ongoing seedling care and maintenance. This is an exciting opportunity to learn about horticulture, climate action, and Métis culture while gaining practical experience in the field.
Requirements
- Physically fit and willing to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a team environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively and take directions from supervisors.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Efficient and effective while performing tasks.
- A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation.
- The successful candidate must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
Nice To Haves
- Basic knowledge of tree species and planting techniques is considered an asset.
- Previous experience working in landscaping or the horticultural industry would be considered an asset.
Responsibilities
- Support the planting of 10,000 seedlings at the Back to Batoche Festival grounds.
- General seedling handling and care.
- Preparing the planting site.
- Tree quality and spacing inspection.
- Regular monitoring and watering of the trees before and after planting.
- Usage, cleaning and maintenance of various types of tools and equipment.
- Reporting any issues of concern to the supervisor.
- Other duties assigned by the Climate Projects Specialist and/or Climate Change Program Manager.
