About The Position

The Seasonal Historical Interpreter at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate leads tours and interacts with visitors, playing the role of a servant in the Great House during the 1920s. This position involves greeting visitors who are also given characters, sharing historical information in an engaging narrative style, and providing an immersive experience of life on the estate. Interpreters are trained to deliver multiple themed tours, including specialty tours of the gardens and grounds, and are supplied with costumes. The role is crucial in making the history of Castle Hill come alive for visitors.

Requirements

• Verbal communication skills
• Storytelling skills
• Comfortable around people of all types
• Able to work indoors and outdoors.
• Comfortable standing for a majority of working hours
• Comfortable with walking up and down multiple staircases.
• Able to carry a tray of “champagne” glasses.
• Current authorization to work in the United States
• A satisfactory criminal background (CORI) check.

Responsibilities

• Lead up to 4 hour-long tours a day.
• Meet and interact with general visitors when not on tour.
• Add interactive elements to tours.
• Share historical information in a narrative style.
• Open and close the museum rooms of the Great House.
• Engage in customer interaction throughout the day, whether on tour or casual.
• Offer visitors the opportunity to become Trustees members.
• Provide visitors with advice and instructions for exploring the Castle Hill grounds.
