About The Position

The City of Markham is seeking seasonal workers to help maintain its parks and green areas. This temporary position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to community improvement from August to January 2027, with a potential contract extension. The role emphasizes hands-on work, teamwork, and a strong commitment to training, health, and safety. Successful candidates will work alongside a supportive team, utilizing provided resources and tools to enhance community spaces.

Requirements

• Natural leadership ability with minimal supervision.
• Enjoy working in a team environment and supporting teammates.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possession of a G driver's license.
• A clean driver's abstract (no demerit points and no more than one driving infraction).
• Hands-on experience operating various grounds maintenance equipment used in parks and landscaping.
• Possession of, or willingness to obtain before starting, a Standard First Aid OR Intermediate First Aid with CPR C and AED certification from a WSIB approved provider.
• Availability for shift work in various weather conditions (rain or shine).
• Flexibility to adapt to changes in hours or duties.
• Ability to start in August 2026 and commit to working until at least January 2027.
• Willingness to have very limited time off approved.
• Must be available to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check.

Nice To Haves

• Post-secondary education in parks operations or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small crew in maintaining community parks.
• Perform cutting and trimming tasks.
• Conduct litter picking.
