About The Position

The Salvation Army is hiring a Seasonal Christmas Assistant to help with Christmas assistance programs and other specific seasonal assistance programs. This role involves direct client interaction, case management, and coordination with volunteers and community resources. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services Field.
  • Past employment with social services or human services.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Bilingual ability (English and Spanish) preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of cultural flexibility, competency in working with multi-cultural participants and experience working with inner-city populations.
  • Detail oriented, flexible, and able to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Must be willing to serve on boards, committees and panels.
  • Valid Driver's License and able to obtain insurance clearances as determined by The Salvation Army's insurance company.
  • Completion of PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and PA DHS Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check.
  • Completion of a Pennsylvania approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Training is necessary prior to employment.
  • Must understand and support for the Mission of The Salvation Army.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Christmas assistance programs and specific seasonal assistance programs as assigned.
  • Assist with Coats for kids sign up and distribution.
  • Assist with Christmas toys sign up and distribution.
  • Help with all Christmas events preparation and logistics.
  • Work closely with Christmas volunteers, and give directions as needed.
  • Help with Christmas Sheetz program preparation, and distribution.
  • Interview clients, assessing their situations, capabilities and problems to determine what services are required to meet their needs.
  • Maintain case history and prepare reports as needed.
  • Refer clients to community resources for services such as job placement, debt counseling, legal aid, housing, medical treatment and provide concrete information such as where to go and how to apply.
  • Develop and review service plans in consultation with clients and perform follow-ups assessing the quantity and quality of services provided.
  • Assist with food pantry as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Undertake tasks that may reasonably be expected within the scope of the post.
