About The Position

The Seamstress/Tailor maintains uniforms in accordance with established standards. The role performs garment alterations, design and repair, assesses employees’ body shapes to determine suitable alterations, and measures guests to ensure proper garment fit. It also involves caring for uniforms, maintaining sewing equipment, supporting uniform inventory and returns, and assisting with general clerical and office duties.

The position requires professional alteration skills, knowledge of fabrics and sewing techniques, safe operation of commercial sewing equipment, and the ability to analyze and solve alteration problems while working under time constraints. The role promotes a fun atmosphere for casino guests and encourages mutual respect, dignity, and integrity among employees. A Level 4 Gaming License is required. The work environment is a casino, usually with moderate noise and typically smoky conditions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred and/or three years of related experience or training.
• Ability to operate all commercial sewing equipment and produce professional-quality alterations.
• Ability to analyze and solve alteration problems.
• Ability to work under time constraints.
• Detail-oriented.
• Level 4 Gaming License required.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policy and procedure manuals, maintenance instructions, and related documents.
• Ability to respond to common inquiries from employees or guests.
• Exceptional customer service abilities and communication skills.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common-sense reasoning to a variety of situations.
• Ability to safely use different types of sewing machines.
• Knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques.
• Good hand-eye coordination.
• Ability to meet the described physical demands, including occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform alterations on newly issued uniforms.
• Design, alter, and repair garments.
• Modify garment styles based on employees’ body shapes and determine appropriate alterations.
• Hem, mend, lengthen, take in, and let out seams on garments and other articles.
• Measure guests with tape measures to ensure proper garment fit.
• Use irons and pressing machines to remove creases from garments and other articles.
• Ensure sewing machines and other equipment are in good working order.
• Assist with uniform inventory.
• Process uniform returns for terminated employees.
• Wash, dry, press, and spot-clean uniforms as necessary.
• Perform emergency alterations and repairs.
• Prepare new uniform merchandise for entry into the uniform inventory system.
• Assist other staff members with general clerical and office duties.
• Promote a fun atmosphere for casino guests.
• Encourage mutual respect, dignity, and integrity among employees by setting positive examples.
