•$155,111 - $258,518

About The Position

Epic Games is seeking an SDET Manager to lead the test engineering team supporting Unreal Engine. The role combines people leadership with hands-on software engineering: the manager will grow and mentor SDETs while building and maintaining production-quality test frameworks, tools, and continuous integration integrations. The manager will set the team’s test roadmap, extend existing testing frameworks, turn manual test cases into automated coverage, and ensure tests are deterministic and reproducible. The role also uses AI-assisted tools for engineering and testing work, improves visibility into test coverage and CI health for engineering leadership, and helps influence the direction of Epic’s broader SDET organization. The position is open across multiple US locations, including Washington.

Requirements

  • Experience leading software engineering teams, including mentorship, technical roadmaps, trade-offs, and prioritization.
  • Track record of writing and shipping production code while leading a team.
  • Current, hands-on proficiency in C++ and at least one of C#, Python, or TypeScript.
  • Strong knowledge of how game engines work.
  • Experience with automation frameworks and continuous integration at scale.
  • Experience setting test strategy across unit, integration, and end-to-end levels.
  • Experience using AI coding tools in engineering work and judgment about when their output can be trusted.
  • Ability to learn complex technology stacks quickly and extend existing investments rather than bypass them.
  • Clear written communication with engineers, producers, and leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Unreal Engine 5 experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of SDETs building automated test coverage across Unreal Engine, and mentor and coach SDETs at every career stage.
  • Write and ship production code in the team’s test frameworks, tools, and CI integrations; own the team’s systems end to end, including design, reliability, and maintenance.
  • Set the team’s test roadmap, covering unit and API tests through input-driven end-to-end tests of the editor and runtime.
  • Extend existing frameworks for low-level, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • Convert manual test cases into automated coverage and keep committed tests deterministic and reproducible on any machine.
  • Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate tool and framework development, test authoring, failure triage, and flake analysis.
  • Increase engineering leadership’s visibility into test coverage and CI health, and influence the vision for Epic’s wider SDET organization.

Benefits

  • Most employees are eligible to participate in Epic’s benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs, subject to the terms of those plans or programs.
