About The Position

Fiserv is seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to support Clover. The role focuses on expanding automated test coverage, improving existing automation frameworks, identifying quality gaps, and designing and implementing solutions. The SDET will use engineering practices alongside a strong understanding of quality and test coverage to help ensure software is delivered with high quality and speed. The position primarily involves automating test scenarios for Android applications using UI Automator and Java. The SDET will collaborate with manual testers, developers, and other stakeholders; provide clear updates on test and bug status; and contribute to testing across development sprints. The role also covers non-functional quality attributes such as performance, reliability, and security, as well as maintaining systems that monitor test stability and identifying opportunities to improve testing practices.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience writing reliable and maintainable automated tests.
  • Ability to identify test coverage gaps and false positives or negatives; proficiency in black-box, functional, and user-flow testing techniques.
  • Experience working on the Android platform and a strong understanding of the mobile test automation ecosystem.
  • At least 1 year of professional-level programming skills in Java, including regex processing, class design, and Map data structures.
  • Strong foundation in general QA methodologies, including the software development life cycle (SDLC) and modern testing practices.
  • Ability to write comprehensive, clear, actionable bug reports that support rapid resolution by engineering teams.
  • Experience with software development tools such as an IDE, debugger, Git, and Jira.
  • Commitment to finding ways to reduce automation flakiness and improve reliability, while planning for changes in the mobile ecosystem.
  • Desire to automate testing and reduce the time required for manual testing.
  • Willingness to work with engineering, manual QA, product, and release teams.
  • Interest in using AI/ML technologies and AI tools to enhance test coverage, predict flakiness, or improve engineering productivity.
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science or another engineering discipline, or equivalent work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Novice-level Unix shell scripting skills, including commands such as grep, cut, sed, sort, and wget.
  • Familiarity with JSON objects, SQL queries, and data structures.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test automation plans in collaboration with the manual testing team using Zephyr (Jira).
  • Work on non-functional quality attributes, including performance, reliability, and security.
  • Develop automated tests using appropriate technologies, currently UI Automator with Java for Android applications.
  • Monitor automated tests running in the continuous integration system, analyze and triage failures, report bugs, and provide stakeholders with timely updates on test status, bug status, and product quality.
  • Work alongside the development team to test in parallel and automate tests during sprints.
  • Design and implement tools that improve the efficiency of manual testing.
  • Help maintain systems for monitoring test stability and report stability issues to engineers.
  • Continuously seek improvements to personal skills, products, and development practices.
