Scuba Diving Product Specialist & Technical Advisor
About The Position
An established e-commerce retailer and distributor of scuba diving equipment is seeking a highly experienced Scuba Diving Product Specialist & Technical Advisor to serve as its in-house diving expert. The role provides technical expertise across the company's scuba diving product portfolio, evaluates and tests equipment, recommends new products, and supports product development initiatives. It combines hands-on product evaluation, technical advising, vendor collaboration, and product education. The ideal candidate is an active, passionate scuba diver with extensive real-world experience using a wide variety of diving equipment and an understanding of equipment performance, safety requirements, emerging technologies, and the needs of recreational and experienced divers. The position is based in New York, NY, with a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days remote. It is full-time and offers a salary of $120,000 per year.
Requirements
- Extensive hands-on scuba diving experience.
- Expert knowledge of scuba diving equipment, including regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, drysuits, dive computers, masks, fins, tanks, and accessories.
- Active involvement in scuba diving and a strong passion for the sport.
- Ability to objectively test and evaluate equipment performance, quality, and safety.
- Strong technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to beginners and experienced divers.
- Detail-oriented and analytical, with the ability to provide practical product recommendations.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in scuba equipment testing, product evaluation, or the diving industry.
- Familiarity with diving industry trends, equipment innovations, and emerging technologies.
- Professional diving certifications such as Divemaster, Instructor, Technical Diver, or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the company's primary scuba diving expert and technical resource.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend new scuba diving equipment and products.
- Test diving gear and provide detailed feedback on performance, quality, safety, and usability.
- Support new product development with practical insights and recommendations.
- Answer complex technical questions from customers and internal teams.
- Provide expert guidance on product selection, equipment compatibility, and proper usage.
- Collaborate with vendors and manufacturers to identify product improvements and opportunities.
- Monitor scuba diving industry trends, innovations, and competitor products.
- Train sales, customer service, and marketing teams on diving equipment and technical specifications.
- Develop product guides, FAQs, and educational materials for customers and employees.
- Help ensure the company's product offerings meet the needs of divers at different experience levels.
