About The Position

We are looking for a Screening Specialist to join our Agricultural Solutions team for our BASF | Nunhems Vegetable Seeds business in Brooks, OR. BASF’s Agricultural Solutions division connects innovation, customers, partners and agricultural experts and integrates sustainability criteria into all business decisions. We help farmers deliver the best possible outcomes, working to achieve the balance between economic, environmental and social value creation for sustainable and efficient agriculture. The Screening Specialist will support the breeder by planning, organizing, planting, evaluating, and harvesting all Long Day onion activities, including hybrid screenings in the Columbia Basin and Idaho and seed production trials in Idaho and Oregon.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Plant Sciences, or a related agricultural field
  • Have some experience conducting field trials in plant breeding, agronomy or related disciplines
  • Possess knowledge of horticulture or agronomy
  • Can work independently in field conditions, including isolated locations, and collaborate effectively across teams
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment and can manage multiple competing tasks and priorities
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all organizational levels
  • Are a team player who collaborates well with colleagues in Product Development, Statistics, Sales, and Seed Production
  • Have strong organizational and planning abilities
  • Are proficient with Microsoft Office and have basic knowledge of databases and statistics
  • Maintain precise data management and strong attention to detail
  • Are analytical with keen observational skills
  • Are able to communicate fluently in English.
  • Are able to travel up to 25%, domestically, and regular day travel
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

  • Helping organize, independently coordinating, setting up, executing, and evaluating hybrid screenings as defined by the Breeder
  • Helping organize, independently coordinating, setting up, executing, and evaluating seed production trials as defined by the Breeder
  • Ensuring quality data collection from trials, organizing and entering data in PRISM, and communicating results and conclusions to the Breeder
  • Supporting miscellaneous breeding activities, including bulb storage evaluation, bulb selection, field evaluation of breeding nurseries, and stock seed field work as needed
