About The Position

The S.C.O.P.E. (Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort) Neighborhood Watch Coordinator works under the direction of the Spokane County Sheriff, or designee, and under the guidance of the S.C.O.P.E. Director. The primary responsibility of this civilian, non-commissioned position is to coordinate the formation, organization, and management of Neighborhood Watch areas. This is not a remote position; all work will be performed in-person on site and/or in the field. This job posting is to create a merged eligibility list from which any future SCOPE Neighborhood Watch Coordinator positions in the Spokane County Sheriff's Office will be filled. Applicants currently on the eligibility list need not re-apply.

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, or a deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) recipient
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Equivalent to at least two (2) years of full-time professional experience in public safety communication or closely related law enforcement field, volunteering with law enforcement, or analytical work in the criminal justice arena.
  • A valid drivers’ license is required at the time of application and must be retained throughout employment.
  • Incumbent is required to undergo and successfully complete a full background investigation with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Background Investigation Unit prior to being hired.

Responsibilities

  • Identify community needs with the development and implementation of Neighborhood Watch plans; evaluate neighborhood policing efforts.
  • Prepare and submit a Neighborhood Watch Weekly Activity Report; create, produce, print, and distribute a quarterly Neighborhood Watch newsletter.
  • Provide volunteer training as requested by the S.C.O.P.E. Director.
  • Work harmoniously with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Deputies, other law enforcement employees, and other agencies to assist neighborhoods and other law enforcement communities.
  • Coordinate Neighborhood Crime Watch meetings; ensure that problems and concerns that are raised at these meetings are forwarded to the appropriate Spokane County Sheriff’s Office personnel; follow-up with the concerned citizens.
  • Serve as liaison for community groups for law enforcement services provided to the neighborhoods.
  • Explore, solicit, and secure financial partnerships, grant opportunities, and funding, if possible.
  • Responsible for maintaining a budget and accurate record keeping of funds, expenditures, and monthly inventory.
  • Maintain accurate records for the Neighborhood Watch Program; manage Neighborhood Watch Database; facilitate performance of background checks on behalf of Neighborhood Watch.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive S.C.O.P.E. Programs, Neighborhood Crime Watch, and Sheriff’s Office reports, records, files, correspondence, and conversations.
  • Attend meetings and events as requested by the S.C.O.P.E. Director.
  • Maintain Neighborhood Watch multimedia websites and other methods of communication (i.e. social media platforms and S.C.O.P.E. website).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
