Scientist, Toxicology (Contractor)

Vividion Therapeutics, Inc•San Diego, CA
•$65 - $80

About The Position

Vividion Therapeutics is seeking a temporary Scientist-level contractor to provide hands-on toxicology expertise in support of drug discovery and development programs. The contractor will guide safety assessment activities and design, oversee, and interpret in vitro and in vivo studies evaluating the safety profiles of covalently and non-covalently targeted small molecules in alignment with applicable regulatory guidance. The role works closely with the toxicology function, contract research organizations (CROs), and multidisciplinary discovery and development teams to advance promising therapeutics toward the clinic. Vividion is a next-generation biotechnology company based in San Diego. Its proprietary chemical proteomics platform enables proteome-wide identification and optimization of drugs that selectively bind proteins, including targets previously considered undruggable. Its programs focus on oncology and immunology and include novel mechanisms of action. This is a temporary six-month position with potential for extension.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in pharmacology, toxicology, or a closely related biomedical discipline and at least 3 years of relevant industry experience, or an M.S. in one of these fields and at least 7 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Broad understanding of nonclinical safety assessment and regulatory requirements for drug development.
  • Experience representing toxicology on discovery and/or development project teams.
  • Ability to critically evaluate, interpret, and integrate multidisciplinary data to support target and compound safety assessment and mechanistic derisking.
  • Experience designing, conducting, and interpreting in vitro and in vivo safety pharmacology, genetic toxicology, and general toxicology studies.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and overseeing CROs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex toxicology findings clearly.
  • Strong scientific judgment, problem-solving skills, urgency, and curiosity.
  • Proactive and agile, able to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, multidisciplinary, and highly collaborative environment.
  • Solution- and results-oriented, with strong attention to detail.

  • Experience in immunology.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the toxicology function as a subject matter expert on drug discovery and development project teams, advising on safety characterization, candidate prioritization, and advancement.
  • Interface with CROs to scope and place appropriate in vitro and in vivo toxicology studies, and manage execution to support timely, high-quality data delivery.
  • Review and quality-check study protocols, results, and reports; integrate and summarize toxicology findings; and communicate conclusions to project teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Contribute to safety study summaries, nonclinical overviews, and other regulatory documents, and support regulatory interactions as appropriate.
  • Identify and implement fit-for-purpose safety assessment strategies for program-specific questions and emerging challenges.
  • Collaborate with early discovery teams on literature-based target safety assessments and target-safety derisking activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of nonclinical safety and regulatory expectations through scientific literature, cross-industry forums, and professional conferences.
