Scientist, Toxicology (Contractor)

Vividion Therapeutics•San Diego, CA

About The Position

Vividion Therapeutics is seeking a temporary Scientist-level contractor to provide hands-on toxicology expertise in support of drug discovery and development programs. The contractor will guide safety assessment activities and design, oversee, and interpret in vitro and in vivo studies evaluating the safety profiles of covalently and non-covalently targeted small molecules in alignment with applicable regulatory guidance. The role works closely with the toxicology function, contract research organizations (CROs), and multidisciplinary discovery and development teams to advance promising therapeutics toward the clinic. Vividion is a biotechnology company based in San Diego that uses a proprietary chemical proteomics platform to investigate drug-protein interactions and identify and optimize drugs, including against previously difficult-to-drug proteins. Its pipeline includes programs in oncology and immunology using mechanisms such as allosteric inhibition, protein-protein interaction inhibition, functional activation, and degradation.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in pharmacology, toxicology, or a closely related biomedical discipline with at least 3 years of relevant industry experience, or an M.S. in one of these fields with at least 7 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Broad understanding of nonclinical safety assessment and regulatory requirements for drug development.
  • Experience representing toxicology on discovery and/or development project teams.
  • Ability to critically evaluate, interpret, and integrate multidisciplinary data to support target and compound safety assessment and mechanistic derisking.
  • Experience designing, conducting, and interpreting in vitro and in vivo safety pharmacology, genetic toxicology, and general toxicology studies.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and overseeing CROs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, highly collaborative environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate complex toxicology findings.
  • Strong scientific judgment, problem-solving skills, urgency, and curiosity.
  • Proactive and agile approach, with ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced setting.
  • Solution- and results-oriented approach with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while remaining closely integrated with project teams and the toxicology function.

  • Experience in immunology is highly desired.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the toxicology function as a subject matter expert on drug discovery and development project teams, providing guidance on safety characterization, candidate prioritization, and advancement.
  • Interface with CROs to scope and place appropriate in vitro and in vivo toxicology studies, and manage study execution to support timely, high-quality data delivery.
  • Review and quality-check study protocols, results, and reports; integrate and summarize toxicology findings; and communicate conclusions to project teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Contribute to safety study summaries, nonclinical overviews, and other regulatory documents, and support regulatory interactions as appropriate for the assignment.
  • Identify and implement fit-for-purpose safety assessment strategies to address program-specific safety questions and emerging challenges.
  • Collaborate with early discovery teams on literature-based target safety assessments and target-safety derisking activities.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant nonclinical safety and regulatory expectations through scientific literature, cross-industry forums, and professional conferences.
