About The Position

The Scientist, Immunology & Non-viral engineering will support MaxCyte’s mission by developing and executing non-viral engineering workflows for immune cells using the company’s electroporation technology. This role combines immunology expertise with hands-on gene editing experience to generate high-quality data that advances internal R&D programs, customer collaborations, and platform innovation. The scientist will work cross-functionally to ensure scientific rigor, operational excellence, and alignment with MaxCyte’s non-viral engineering capabilities.

Requirements

  • PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or related field with 2-3+ years or Master’s degree with 5+ years of with hands-on experience with non-viral gene editing, including CRISPR/Cas RNPs, mRNA, or DNA template delivery.
  • Strong background in immune cell biology, including isolation, activation.
  • Proficiency in flow cytometry, multi-color panel design, and immune phenotyping.
  • Hands-on experience with electroporation-based delivery or non-viral delivery of gene editing reagents.
  • Hands- on experience with high-throughput screening, automation, or advanced analytical tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in a structured, fast-paced, milestone-driven industry or core laboratory environment.
  • Hands-on experience with cell therapy development, including CAR-T, TCR, NK, DC or macrophage engineering.
  • Familiarity with base editing, prime editing, or emerging non-viral modalities.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with internal team members and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute non-viral gene editing workflows using CRISPR/Cas systems, RNPs, mRNA, and DNA templates in primary cells and cell lines.
  • Engineer primary human immune cells (T cells, NK cells, macrophages) and assess editing efficiency, viability, and functional outcomes.
  • Perform activation, proliferation, cytokine profiling, cytotoxicity, and phenotyping assays to characterize engineered cells.
  • Analyze flow cytometry, NGS, and molecular assay data; prepare clear summaries for internal teams and external partners.
  • Apply deep understanding of MaxCyte’s non-viral delivery technology to optimize workflows and troubleshoot experiments.
  • Design, perform, and troubleshoot laboratory experiments in accordance with established protocols, quality standards, and regulatory expectations.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data, prepare technical summaries, and present results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with project management teams to ensure alignment and timely delivery of materials.
  • Provide scientific support to customer-facing teams, including remote and onsite troubleshooting with Field Application Scientists.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies, automation tools, and high-throughput approaches to increase efficiency and scalability.
  • Contribute to internal innovation initiatives, including development of new products, platform enhancements, and scientific capability expansion.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and compliant laboratory records.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational, regulatory, and safety standards.
