About The Position

We are seeking a motivated and developing materials scientist with a strong foundation in cementitious materials and concrete technology to join our R&D team. This role supports the development and evaluation of chemical admixtures for cementitious materials while supporting customer-focused activities. The Scientist II will contribute to research and product development projects by performing laboratory experiments, analyzing data, and supporting technical problem solving. Under limited guidance, this role develops technical capabilities, produces quality work, and contributes insights that help improve product performance and research outcomes. The Scientist II will also direct and coordinate the work of a small technical team to support customer testing requests including qualification testing, evaluation of materials, and mixture design optimization. This role will help ensure customer inquiries are addressed efficiently while maintaining high technical standards and data quality. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong analytical skills, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning while working collaboratively with internal teams and supporting customer-facing technical activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Material Science, Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical), or a closely related field
  • Strong understanding of cement hydration chemistry, cementitious materials, and concrete technology
  • Foundational experience in cementitious materials or inorganic binders.
  • Experience performing laboratory experiments and using analytical characterization techniques relevant to cement and concrete systems
  • Working knowledge of cement chemistry, hydration mechanisms, and interactions between cementitious materials and chemical admixtures.
  • Ability to independently execute laboratory experiments and analyze results with moderate guidance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve basic technical challenges.
  • Ability to perform value-added analysis and communicate insights and potential solutions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Industrial, graduate research, or postdoctoral experience in cement, construction materials, or inorganic binders is preferred.
  • Experience with characterization techniques relevant to cementitious systems
  • Familiarity with cement and concrete testing standards (ASTM, EN, ISO) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and direct the work of a small laboratory team responsible for supporting customer testing and technical service activities.
  • Support customer projects by evaluating concrete admixture options and recommending appropriate products based on performance requirements and project conditions.
  • Work with internal teams and customers to optimize concrete mix designs using company admixtures to meet performance, cost, and application requirements.
  • Oversee and participate in laboratory testing of customer mix designs to validate performance, including workability, strength development, setting behavior, and other relevant properties.
  • Manage customer qualification testing programs to support product approval and adoption in customer concrete mixtures.
  • Provide clear summaries of test results and recommendations to internal teams and customer-facing colleagues to support product selection and troubleshooting.
  • Assist in evaluating new materials, admixture technologies, or mix design approaches that may benefit customers or expand product applications.
  • Maintain accurate records of testing programs, experimental results, and customer-related technical work.
  • Collaborate with product development, technical service, and commercial teams to ensure customer needs are addressed efficiently and effectively.
  • Prioritize laboratory activities and resources to support both internal development work and customer-driven testing requests.
  • Champion and comply with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and contribute to maintaining a strong safety culture in laboratory operations.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, standards, and best practices related to concrete materials and admixture performance.
