Scientist I, Analytical Research & Development

Thermo Fisher Scientific•Florence, SC

About The Position

The Scientist I develops, qualifies, validates, and implements analytical methods for Quality Control (QC) use to support pharmaceutical development and manufacturing, primarily for small-molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The role applies critical thinking and scientific judgment to plan and execute experiments, troubleshoot analytical challenges, and progress complex method-related work independently, seeking guidance when appropriate. The Scientist I follows applicable cGMP and laboratory safety requirements, maintains accurate and complete records, and communicates methods, data, and conclusions clearly. The role collaborates with colleagues and cross-functional teams to support successful method implementation and manufacturing needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
  • Working knowledge of chemistry, analytical instrumentation, and qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Familiarity with pharmaceutical quality and regulatory requirements, including GMP.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures and interpret analytical results.
  • Logical problem-solving skills and sound scientific judgment.
  • Clear written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute to technical documents such as SOPs, protocols, and reports.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to organize work and contribute to multiple projects.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States now or in the future, without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Laboratory experience is preferred; no prior laboratory experience is required.
  • Experience in a GLP or GMP/cGMP environment is preferred.
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, GC, inductively coupled plasma (ICP), or mass spectrometry is preferred.
  • New graduates are encouraged to apply.
