Scientist I/II, Biomolecular Discovery

Magnet Biomedicine•Boston, MA
•$115,000 - $155,000

About The Position

Magnet Biomedicine is seeking a Scientist I/II to join its Biomolecular Discovery team and contribute to drug discovery by producing high-quality protein reagents for biochemical assays and generating structural insights. The position works closely with colleagues in cell biology, chemistry, and proteomics in a collaborative, cross-functional environment. The role supports discovery of novel small-molecule therapeutics, including molecular glue treatments for cancer and immune-mediated diseases.

Requirements

  • PhD, or BS/MS, in structural biology, biophysics, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • For PhD holders, 0–5 years of industrial drug discovery experience; for BS/MS holders, 4–10 years of industrial drug discovery experience.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in recombinant protein construct design, expression, and purification.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to advance team objectives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with structural biology methods such as X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, native MS, or HDxMS.
  • Experience in proximity-induced small-molecule drug discovery.

Responsibilities

  • Design plasmid constructs and optimize recombinant protein expression in bacterial, insect, or mammalian cell systems.
  • Perform multistep protein purification using affinity, ion-exchange, hydrophobic interaction, and size-exclusion chromatography.
  • Analyze protein purity, stability, and integrity using SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, UV/Vis spectroscopy, and fluorescence-based assays.
  • Assess compound perturbation of protein-protein interactions using techniques such as FP, TR-FRET, and luminescence.
  • Support X-ray crystallography data collection and analysis, and communicate structural insights with collaborators.
  • Maintain detailed electronic laboratory notebooks, calibrate equipment, and prepare comprehensive reports.
