Lilly is investing $4.5 billion to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. This facility will combine research and manufacturing to optimize processes, increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact. The Scientist/Engineer – Technical Operations will support and execute on-shift operations activities, ensuring effective and consistent execution on the manufacturing floor. This role involves working directly with operators, supporting batch readiness and release, and providing technical and operational oversight. The individual will become an expert in their assigned area (Small Molecule, Hybrid, or Biologics) and act as a key liaison with Process Engineering, Process Translation and Execution (PTE), and Product Research and Development (PRD) for new process introductions. They will represent operations in detailed planning for process changeovers and new product introductions. During the pre-startup phase, the role will heavily contribute to Operational Readiness, supporting technical processes, tech transfer, training delivery, procedures, and workflows. This includes assisting with equipment qualification, site acceptance tests (SAT), and developing standard operating procedures and operator training plans. Post-project completion, the Scientist/Engineer will provide technical oversight and ownership for the operations team, offering on-floor training, process support, and leading incident investigations. They will collaborate with PTE, PE, and PRD for effective product delivery, providing technical input for pre-startup activities like Process Hazard Reviews (PHRs), developing batch instructions, and supporting floor operations. The role may involve performing routine manufacturing activities and working on shift as needed. A safety-first, quality-always approach is essential, managing diverse unit operations and manufacturing skills. Domestic and international travel may be required for collaboration, training, and learning from other API production sites.
