Scientist, Early Discovery & Immunology

BeiGene•San Carlos, CA
•$136,600 - $170,700•Onsite

About The Position

BeOne Medicines is seeking a highly motivated, rigorous Scientist to join its early discovery group at BeOne Institute. The Institute acts as a dedicated innovation engine, using agile and scientifically deep approaches to turn uncertainty into therapeutic opportunities. Its work emphasizes bold exploration, strategic alignment with R&D priorities, and translating insights into impactful pipeline programs. The Scientist will perform hands-on laboratory work with a drug-development mindset, executing cell engineering, assay, and screening workflows to advance biological concepts toward scalable therapeutic assets. The role involves designing and carrying out experimental strategies to modulate the immune system, contributing across project initiatives, and generating rigorous data to move programs forward. The position is onsite in San Carlos, California, and has no travel requirement.

Requirements

  • Ph.D., M.S., or B.S. in Immunology, Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific field.
  • At least 4 years of relevant industry or academic experience with an M.S., or at least 6 years with a B.S.
  • Hands-on expertise in at least two of the following areas: primary T-cell biology; iPSC culture and differentiation; gene-editing modalities such as CRISPR, CRISPRa/i, or base editing; lentiviral or non-viral cell engineering; mRNA design, formulation, or delivery; functional screening approaches.
  • Working knowledge of standard molecular biology techniques, such as cloning, qPCR, and plasmid assembly.
  • Hands-on experience with multi-color flow cytometry, including panel design, and primary immune-cell functional assays.
  • Technical proficiency with cell sorting and isolation techniques.
  • Ability to independently design and execute experiments, rigorously analyze data, and clearly present results.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in drug discovery or translational biology environments.
  • Hands-on experience processing and analyzing in vivo tissue or blood samples.
  • Experience with 3D cell culture systems, such as organoids, tumor spheroids, or microfluidic models, to evaluate immune-cell activity.
  • Basic programming skills in R or Python for biological data processing and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Independently design, execute, and analyze experimental workflows for early discovery projects, generating high-quality data packages.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques supporting construct design, library assembly, and vector or mRNA preparation.
  • Isolate, culture, and engineer primary human immune cells, such as primary T cells, and/or manage iPSC culture and differentiation workflows.
  • Execute multi-color flow cytometry, cell sorting (FACS), magnetic isolation, and quantitative immune-cell functional assays, including cell activation, cytotoxicity, and cytokine profiling.
  • Build, optimize, and run pooled or arrayed functional screening approaches to evaluate novel targets and therapeutic constructs.
  • Troubleshoot assays, analyze biological data, and contribute experimental insights to project strategy and decision-making.
  • Present experimental results and data packages to cross-functional project teams and discovery leadership.
  • Contribute to laboratory operational workflows, technical protocols, and material management at the San Carlos site.

Benefits

  • Annual bonus plan eligibility for non-commercial roles.
  • Opportunity for all employees to receive discretionary equity awards and voluntarily participate in the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
