About The Position

Axle is seeking a Scientific Program Manager to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) located in Bethesda, MD. We work with some of the top research organizations and facilities in the country including multiple institutes at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Axle is seeking a Scientific Program Manager to provide independent project management support to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) team in support of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study.

Requirements

  • Strong project management skills with experience supporting complex research programs.
  • Experience with epidemiological or longitudinal health studies.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate workshops, conferences, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Experience developing website content, reports, policy briefs, and scientific writing in plain language.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with scientific, academic, and government partners.
  • Experience with portfolio analysis and strategic planning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and related tools).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and assist staff in implementing policies and procedures related to the organization's scientific programs.
  • Coordinate and document projects from beginning to completion; monitor and report the status of completion, funding, and results; provide progress reports.
  • Collaborate with staff on the planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of programs and initiatives in the assigned specialty area of research.
  • Spearhead compilation, analysis, and organization of scientific and program information; develop and lead data analysis and dyadic data analysis.
  • Create internal and external materials including reports, summaries, emails, website content, video scripts, newsletters, and social media content.
  • Attend and participate in multidisciplinary research team meetings; prepare briefing materials and summaries of meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Work with staff on organizing and participating in symposia and discussions with national and international scientific leaders.
  • Develop outreach strategies including determination of conferences to attend, plans for press coverage, and other outreach activities.
  • Review short and long-range planning proposals to ensure alignment with organizational objectives and mission.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive studies of performance measures; develop metrics and milestones to assess program progress.
  • Develop an overall operational plan for the project including tasks, timescales, schedules, resources, and estimated costs; maintain a project-tracking document.
  • Prepare presentations to Institute leadership; report to multiple divisions on program budget status.
  • Contribute to the writing and development of executive summaries and reports for key partners.
  • Analyze business and operating procedures to devise efficient methods; identify operational and technical problems and develop recommended solutions.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive documentation procedures for projects and portfolio monitoring activities.
  • Collaborate with upper level management on contract management activities associated with the program.
  • Develop training materials and make them readily available to increase program awareness.
  • Interact with scientists to help overcome technical hurdles and provide expertise regarding scientific protocols.
