Scientific Implementation Manager

UncountableSan Francisco, NY

About The Position

Uncountable is changing the way industrial R&D operates by building a unified R&D platform. This platform is designed to help chemists, material scientists, and biologists accelerate the discovery, development, and market launch of new products. Founded by engineers from MIT and Stanford, Uncountable's platform is trusted by leading R&D organizations across various industries, including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, and food & beverage. The company's mission is to significantly speed up industrial R&D processes. Uncountable is a fast-paced environment where team members are given significant ownership from the outset.

Requirements

  • Scientific depth: A meaningful background in chemistry, materials science, biology, chemical engineering, or a closely related field — comfortable discussing experimental design, data types, and R&D workflows with PhD-level researchers.
  • Communication: Exceptional ability to explain complex ideas clearly to a wide range of audiences, from bench scientists to R&D directors to business leaders.
  • Empathy and adaptability: Ability to understand scientists' needs and navigate different organizational cultures and working styles.
  • Software fluency: Hands-on comfort with scientific or technical software (e.g., ELN, LIMS, instrument control software, data analysis tools like MATLAB or JMP, or scripting for data processing). Ability to quickly learn new tools and work with data-heavy environments.
  • Project orientation: Comfort managing multiple workstreams simultaneously and driving projects to completion in a fast-paced environment.
  • Genuine curiosity about software, data, and how technology can transform R&D.

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. or higher in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, biology, or a closely related field, plus 2–3 years of post-degree work experience in research, industry, or a technical customer-facing role.
  • Hands-on lab experience.
  • Experience in a customer-facing, consulting, or technical role explaining complex scientific concepts to varied audiences.
  • Familiarity with data management concepts: spreadsheets, databases, ELNs, or LIMS.
  • Exposure to multiple scientific domains (e.g., organic chemistry and polymer science, or biotech and formulation).

Responsibilities

  • Lead Scientific Implementations: Serve as the primary scientific point of contact for new customers throughout the onboarding process. Translate customer experimental workflows, data structures, and scientific domains into tailored Uncountable configurations. Restructure and contextualize customer data to make it useful, searchable, and actionable within the platform.
  • Drive Customer Engagement: Lead discovery calls, demos, and working sessions with R&D managers, scientists, and technical stakeholders. Build trusted relationships by demonstrating scientific fluency and understanding of their work. Set project timelines, manage implementation milestones, and ensure customers achieve their go-live goals.
  • Design and Configure Complex Scientific Workflows: Architect end-to-end platform configurations that accurately represent a customer's experimental paradigm, including formulation definition, experiment design, measurement recording, and results tracking. Map intricate scientific data structures onto Uncountable's data model, making informed decisions about data representation. Address ambiguous and edge-case data environments (e.g., legacy spreadsheets, non-standard workflows) by designing scientifically accurate and practically usable configurations. Iterate on configurations in collaboration with customers through working sessions to test, refine, and validate system accuracy. Develop and document reusable configuration patterns across various scientific domains to accelerate future implementations and inform product development.
  • Shape the Product: Act as the internal voice of the customer, identifying patterns and gaps observed during implementations. Collaborate directly with engineering and product teams to advocate for features that address the real needs of R&D teams, influencing future product development based on field experience.
