About The Position

St. Paul’s School, a residential, co-educational secondary school affiliated with the Episcopal Church, is seeking innovative and experienced educators for the Penn Boarding School Teaching Residency (BSTR) program. This program is a collaboration between the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education and leading boarding schools. The BSTR offers aspiring teachers a two-year opportunity to earn a Master's in Science of Education while participating in an exceptional fellowship program at St. Paul's School. The fellowship involves teaching classes, coaching, serving as a residential advisor, and collaborating with faculty mentors and program directors. The Master's program includes summer work, online coursework, and on-site sessions at consortium schools.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Physics or Chemistry.
  • Commitment to working and living with adolescents and supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth within a residential boarding school setting.
  • Highly organized and collaborative.
  • Strong time management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching experience is not required, but relevant experience working with young people is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching one or two classes each term.
  • Coaching an interscholastic team or co-curricular activity for two terms.
  • Living on campus and serving as a residential adviser.
  • Meeting weekly with the Director of the Teaching Fellow Program and other Teaching Fellows.
  • Working collaboratively with an assigned faculty mentor, including weekly meetings and class observations.
  • Completing summer work at Penn each year.
  • Engaging in online work with the cohort of Fellows from other schools.
  • Attending one weekend per term at a consortium school with faculty and Penn representatives.
  • Completing coursework with a mentor at St. Paul's School.
  • Fulfilling regular reading and writing assignments from the BSTR at the Penn Graduate School of Education.
